Me and a mate just spent 3 days on Albany Island (Far North QLD) with CY Fishing Charters. It was hands down some of the best surface luring sessions I have ever experienced. GT, Mackerel and Queenies were easy to come by. We pulled up onto random islands and casts sticks and poppers across the lagoons to hook up with as many 4-6 kilo GT and Queenies as you like and then and anchored off the edge of many random reefs and consistently hooked up to the larger 25 - 30 kilo models. In each case the fishing action was hot.
I know many of us use this site to get references for good trips to take - add this one to your list. I researched all of the mother ship operations around Cape York (including Nomad) and chose CY for 2 main reasons, more cost effective than the others and you come back to an island each night to explore and sleep on dry land rather living at sea. Have a look on Google maps at where Albany Island is located and you will see this is definitely not a disadvantage in accessing awesome fishing locations.

I'll be up around Cairns at xmas time and would love to try something like this, so thanks for the recommendation. looking at their website, it looks a lot cheaper than a lot of the other mothership operations. Most of the barra trips up there are $1000/day/person which is just ridiculous.
Be sure to get in touch with Hamish or Patrice early, they can only book charters around favourable tides so its important to plan ahead in order to get a spot.

I did some guiding trips with Hamish a few years ago now when we both worked with John Charlton over is Seisia. He was a full time guide back then and quite good. He's been with CY for some time so would be an excellent guide to put you on the fish.
Hi D.B I am probably heading up to cow bay at xmas again this year and was also thinking about a daintree river charter. Any recomendations? Would it be better to get out of the river and bash the reefs? I don't want to sPend all day for a return of a couple of rat barra! I know some guides think that is a good trip.
Jamie Beitzel is the man for the Daintree and surrounds. If the weather permits he will take you outside otherwise the river it will be. Obviously outside will be better but that will come down to the weather gods. He fishes that area exclusively and full time so really has the place wired. Top bloke too.
