    Because they will be so quiet you won't be able to hear it, output from headphone jack not powerful enough to drive speakers.....generally

    They can... if they have a built in amplifier. Many types available.

    Take a little bit of care and it will be fine. Get a good mount and cover for it. I have a heavy duty shock cover on mine, and mounted in a ram mount. It cops a splash occassionaly in rough weather, take it out of the cover after use to insepct it and no issues yet. My tablet has been through far worse than what I put it through on the boat, very robust, in fact it is split open now and has been for some time. I have no issue getting a new one but am curious as to how long this one will last....I dont have an ipad, it's an asus tab, it has its shortfalls in other areas, but it sure can take a beating and salty weather
