If you have a sound system on the boat then just a headphone plug lead to Aux In on the sound system.

If no sound system or if it doesn't have Aux In then easiest is buy a boom box. The advantage of that is you can use it anywhere.

Do you have it now or are you buying it? I am not up with them but someone made a good point the other day, wouldn't you be better off with another brand of tablet with normal USB ports?

    Re: I Pad questions

easiest option is to use aux plug to existing radio/cd player, almost all modern day cd players have an AUX input, simple easy and no fuss,

    Re: I Pad questions

I have a old set of powered computer speakers that I plug my iPhone into to play tunes at work would work with an iPad just fine but for them you would need a inverter to run the 240 volt. My young bloke plugs his iPod straight into his guitar amp he also has a battery powered amp that would do the same thing. I did see in a mag recently a dash mounted dock that was only the size of a gauge, takes iPod type gear or USB

In a boat I don't think 'stereo' effect is important.... So a wifi rechargeable speaker might be the go?

I personally would just get a sound system with aux input but if you have the money and don't want to have a connection cable.....

    Re: I Pad questions

The other question I have about using iPad on boats, especially for navigation type apps, is whether they are going to be up to the pounding that our marine electronics cop on a rough day.

On a yacht, maybe they might be OK, but on a 5-6m powerboat I reckon they might have a pretty short lifespan in that harsh environment.

Anybody got any experience that supports that theory or suggests otherwise?

Note to self: Don't argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience....

    Re: I Pad questions

My I-pad has survived two years of my kids "enthusiasm" so I reckon so...

If using a quality mount should be sweet....

My iPad has been out most weekends since March on 5.75 Baysport and still going great. I think they are very robust for g forces..,, just not water.
