And a modest bunch too! Although a bit cheeky my post was based on time spent in a mates vagabond. Was a hard riding boat so I reckon the smaller ones would be the same. Great at rest though! As other said its a trade off.

The Viking was particularly hard from what I remember. I have also played in old V Seas and Venus's and I thought they rode well for their size. The old Viking just seemed to hit all of the potholes

I'd try a foil like the LZ ones ($49 from Bias) and engine wedges. Ultimately tabs are the go. The foil will let you plane slower for when it is rough and the wedges will give you more in trim.

OK, I owned an old Viking for years, and used to sell them too, so, the advice of 'get used to it" is about as good as you will get. they are a hard riding boat, they also like to smack down on one side when side on to the wind, how big the motor is will not be a problem, (well not much) they are an OK boat for the price and size, but that's where it ends.

What about trim tabs to make the Vee work on the Viking?. They made a big difference to the Vag as it had the same affliction*

    * Not that a "real" Seafarer really ever had afflictions!

I think Noel's comments in the old thread are fair. All things you can fix. I'd happily seal up the hatch and anchor out of the cockpit with a Nally tub/Warwick tub on the floor. I've seen plenty of the ski jump Seafarers with a wave breaker where the glass windscreen meets the fibreglass. Something as simple as 4" alloy angle will help. Electronics you can make up brackets for out of alloy or buy Ram brackets. Seating you can do whatever you want. Mounting seats on poly eskies works well for room and the poly has a bit of give when it is rough. Then put tabs and a foil on it. So what if it is a 17' boat, they can benefit from it. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Their old school transom is a lot better to work with on the Seafarers than the stupid old HH side seats. I've seen live bait tanks mounted in that big engine well. Also full width ply cutting boards with rod holders which flat back the transom a bit giving you something to lean into but handy to work off. The half pod 5.5m ones etc are great fishing transoms but the old 5.2s, 4.7s, Venus' etc. can be made into something ok.

Yep, agree 100% they were/are a pretty simple and reasonably good handling boat, they have almost no extra 'stuff" in them as standard, but there is a million things that can be added to make them quite a good fishing boat, dont know how many Vc's and Vikings were ever made (the old shape I mean) but there must be a lot of them, I reckon at any ramp you would see at least one, my old one had twin 55 Johnsons on it, and there was a few in that configuration around my area, most had a 90 or 115 Johnson fitted. Plenty of them have suffered from rotted floors and transoms now, but then, what brand hasn't from that era?
