Once in a lifetime fishing adventure

    Hi All,

I have just been told by my boss that they are moving the company overseas and I can either come, or find another job. I have decided to go, but have to take all my leave, about a month, before the new year.

I have decided to treat myself and lash out on a good fishing trip before I go. I can't spend anymore than $5k all in, and I want to do some jigging for tuna and kingfish or popping for GT's, wahoo etc... (not interested in Marlin).

I live in Melbourne, so would have to factor in flights too, but looking for any advice on where I can go as a bit of a last hurrah (at least for the next few years).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers in advance.

Nomad do those type of charters for maybe 5k, maybe a touch more with heaps of GT action.

Thanks guys, I saw Groote Island on tv just the other day. It looked pretty good, but I think that it might be pretty tough to get there. Has anyone been there?

Gotta be Nomad, no question about it. If you are on Facebook, "like" the Nomad page and read the reports. A trip with them will tick all the boxes!

Go to Birri, at mornington. There are mackerel, red emperor, nannygai, trout, barra, jacks ect. everywhere. There might not be as much popping and most isn't catch and release. To give you a idea of how untouched the area is, that charter is the only boat that fishes there, and it shows.

    Hope this helps, Rob

Anything that has the Breaka Girls on board sounds fine to me.

Nomad would be the ideal, but is a little too expensive. Has anyone been on an Arafura charter? There is the possibility of going on one in early December to Melville Island.

I am heading up to Albany Island to spend a week with CY Charters. I looked at a lot of these options and this one seems like the most cost effective/qualitative.

I agree, CY Charters looks like a pretty good deal. Getting there is a pain in the butt. I have heard mixed reports about Arafura Charters. Some say awesome, some say don't bother. I specifically would be looking to go on a trip around Melville Island. Has anyone done this tour?

You could look at Lord Howe Island as well.. or a charter off from Cairns or townsville, or go to the Whitsunday Islands...
