I gotta agree with ML, I had a DF140, (not the "a"), but it's sweet spot was 5000rpm

never ceases to amaze me how people get personally invested in something they own just because they own it. dont get your panties in a bunch just because I cast aspertions on your brand of motor. I am trying to have a discussion and see if I am missing something. It seems to me they could benifit with ataller gearbox and a bigger prop, like say the merc 150 four.
I would suggest if you need to cruize at 5000 then you should have put a bigger motor on it. Especially in the larger HP. I guess it's lucky they are still fairly economical at 5000 rpm. wouldnt want to run a 200hp around at 5000 rpm all day.
I would have thought a two stroke loves to rev more and is happier running at WOT for long periods. is anything I have said idiotic? Like I said I thought I wanted one.
I see the two stroke marketing campaign has worked on you
So your motor redlines at 5800, the 140a redlines at 6200. Of course given the same HP, same hull and a similar prop (taking into account gear ratio) you would expect a higher cruise RPM. Since you’re going up in HP that probably won’t be problem I would expect, but who knows how your hull would react.
But why would you care if it cruised a couple of hundred higher in the RPM range? I don’t sit there all day looking at my RPMs lol.
If you go back and look through my figures you’ll see I didn’t have the problem on my hull from going from a 90hp Honda to a 140hp Suzuki .. quite the opposite.
Anyway I had a small drama with my 140a during this years barra classic, the idle valve shat itself and melted haha. Anyway all fixed up under warranty from my dealer and back on the water and she’s all apples again. Haven’t done as much fishing this much so it’s only just clocked over 400 hours now I think. Still reckon it’s a great motor.
well according to his figures I wont benifit from the suzi 140 unless it will swing a bigger prop which i sincerely doubt as my boat is longer, has a canopy and is probably heavier
I think your boat would be eminently suited to an E-tec. I am certain you would not be happy with a 4 stroke Suzuki, Yammy, Merc or Honda.
Note to self: Don't argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience....
