Port Philip or western port for snapper? Where and when?

G'day Guys and girls,
I'm down in melbourne fishing port philip bay. Sunday we went out off safety beach and all we caught was flathead. Today we went out off Carrum, north of Frankston and again all we got was flathead.
We have travelled some 1100kms to catch a snapper and are now struggling to find one. Anyone have any tips?
We are told now from some guys at the pub that western port is the go at this time of year. So we might give that a go on thursday.
Anyone have any spots that we might be able to give a go for a snapper? We won't tell anyone and we will be out of here on saturday. Really appreciate it if someone could give us some local information.

thay are still few and far between, the best i have heard in Western Port is Stony Point area. Port Phillip bay they are ment to be getting them off Carrum so who nose. good luck Im going out Thursday morning down Stony Point way so call up on CH 16 Ian Flys and if i hear you ill let you know how im going. fishing from 5am till 10am or so.
i went out from Rhyll on Tuseday morning for one Gummy shark after 6 hrs and a few spots.

They are just starting to bite in both bays. You need to be on the water at dawn to have the most /any success but tide change and dusk are good too. Try off hastings between bouy 25 and 27 just off the channel. If no good go north and sound around opposite Lysarts.

You need a specialized rig for WP because of the tides. If your bait is spinning then you are wasting your time.

For PPB try in 18 mtrs off mornington. Be on the water at 4ish and sound around and start fishing after first light. a simple ball sinker and a pilchard will do the job there.
