Thread: New Plotter What to get??

That thing was a permanent fixture on the kitchen bench for a bout a month in winter - spent many nights poring over the platinum card fishing chips charts. Haven't had a chance to get on the water with them yet, and I'm still not convinced everything they show is there, but... if they're accurate, there are some major structures in my neck of the woods I've been missing for the last 25 years eg holes 200m deep in surrounding water of 100m, mountains a coupla miles out side the shelf that shoot up off the deep etc

    Gaz,

I had a good look at the new HDS7 touch today and was very impressed. The 12" model will be out by December and I'm very tempted for an upgrade to my HDS10 Gen1.

Go have a look and play.

Yeh It's on the short list but screen customisation will be the over riding factor

    Hi Garry

I am having a serious look at the HDS7 touch at the moment too. Very impressive, menu system is very intuitive and super easy to use. So much better than the std HDS that it's not funny.

If you have a a look, you will see that the ability to set up custom screens is very good, you can do almost any combination that you like and setting them up is a click and drag type affair - very iPad in its simplicity of use. I am very tempted. Plus it's got the structure scan module built in just add the $300 SS transducer.

Data overlay also looks very good, as do the engine screens.

Overall, it looks like a very nice bit of kit. And has a proper 7" screen, unlike the HDS 7 which is 6.4". Nice and bright. Side by side with the Simrad NSS7 at the new BCF at Cleveland, it looks new and fresh. I think I have resolved that little dilemma, for me the 7 touch beats the NSS7 comfortably.

It's going to be hard for me to resist. Am waiting for prices from a couple of sources and if they come in at the point I am happy with I will probably do it. Otherwise I might wait until next boat show season when they have been on the market for a while and pick one up when the prices have dropped a bit and deals are being offered.

Are you aware that they also come in a GPS only version - the HDS7m touch? Save a few hundred extra bucks that way too by getting the version without the sounder capabilities built in.

    Cheers

Hows the researching going Garry? Any closer to determining what your going to get? I'm trying to figure out how to find the funds for the 12" version upgrade. Wonder how much I could get for the HDS10 Gen1.

Mate I went the other way the simrad over the hds... And have never looked back.. For use in the bay using the gain/zoom dial and menu buttons is so much easier than using the touch screen which is also available on the simrad. In rough weather the touch screen is the pits!! Just my 2 cents worth n what I found works best or me
