Epic red session bud, well done

Weds arvo saw us purring the Yalta offshore for what was going to be a beautiful, but dark, calm night. Winter winds at Cairns had me very frustrated so this was my first overnighter since Feb!
The 175 Zuk had us purring along at 50 kms an hour, so it wasn’t long before the depth range had us in the target for the evening.
The early hours were pretty poor, which wasn’t surprising, seeing the almanac predictions had us wasting our time expecting a good catch, but I have often seen that prognosis overturned.
At 2 am I steered us a little further offshore, and began some drifts of about 2 kms each and the reddies started to show. As the pics show , we also caught some nice jobbies and some excellent Robinson Sea Bream, which are an excellent chew. Not to mention the reds and largemouth who have their own culinary reputation!
Fishing finally stopped at 6.30 am when things had slowed down and the sun was up, so we steamed home thru a slight landbreeze. So satisfied! Hope you enjoy the pics.
Cheers!!

Fishing can be defined as "A jerk on one end of the rod, waiting for a jerk on the other".
"Fishing was around along time before you darling"
Nothing like the Northern seas, man I miss that fishing!

Awsome haul right there! Fished 2 am - 6am goes to show you have to put in the effort! Everybody else would normally be sleeping! Happy filleting wish it was me
Yep Dean1 Ive often caught our greatest catches during those hours. I pump the guys to stay awake, for the session. Its a dog of a time to be awake, but as you say .......

Hi Odes - nice catch mate.
Did you find the bite coincided with the almanac?
Or was it more about location?
- just wondering.
Thanks for posting - some nice eating and very respectable fish.
Cheers

I think it was more about the location really, and as I hinted earlier, I'm not a great respecter of Almanacs , as I would not go out as some don't even tho the weather is good. It's true it can be lean on the down times , but I've caught way past my fare share of top fish thru those poor predictions by just being there and fishing all night. Don't know about other areas, but we often get our best fish from 2 am till morn.
