Hi All
Heading up to Toogoom for the Christmas holidays and was wondering on the best spots to fish in the bay or out of Bundy for a feed of reefies.
Also the possibility of sand crabs and whiting fishing out the front of Toogoom.
Have fished the Breaksea spit on a charter and in a mates 6.0 mtr was unsure with the current at that time of the year out wide and with that prospect of not wanting to waste time travelling that far to find the current roaring.
Are the northern gutters and reefs higher up the bay worth the visit and be more out of the current than the Breaksea Spit area.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
You'd be better to head across Breaksea and get out to the real reefs than the gutters stuff. They can run super hard and be a change of tide proposition anyway. Yeh the current can roar out the front but it is fishable on the drift and in the shallows. It was usually still roaring in May/June for the old Toyota Comp down at the Gardners but once again it was always fishable if you get calm weather. Hervey Bay = travelling big distance regardless what you are doing IMHO.
If you are going to fish inside the bar make sure you use live bait. Lots of good fish to be had at the gutters and closer reefs. Current is often roaring at breaksea at that time of the year but it changes daily.
