    Transducer lead/cable - best practice

    Quick question,

Just rewiring my boat at the moment and was wondering whether it is best practice to run the transducer lead/cable together the other wiring in the split loom convoluted tube that runs under the starboard gunwale, or I should keep this separate from the other wiring i.e. outside of the split loom tube?

In particular, is there any interference from electrical fields if I run it bundled together with the other wiring in the split loom?

    Cheers.

I don't think it matters a lot. Often there are other factors such as how easy is it to get the wire through anyway. The port side can result in more holes as the outboard wires have a good hole to put things through on the starboard side. Also if you have a walk through screen then it it quite a path up to the front of the boat for the wires.

I wouldnt run it with the others.
No matter what manufacturers claim, i'd still keep running a trans cable a minimum distance of 2-3 inches or so from any decent current carrying cabling.
Even if it isnt a actual issue its something you can then totally rule out of the equation if u get clutter or potential interference. i.e. saves even that potential attempt to improve things later.

If its an outboard the toughest part is normally two spots...where batt cables enter/exit motor well/pod area..and the run up to the dash where cables/wires are concentrated. Only other thing to avoid is running it near or underneath your compass or any speakers.

Thats just me though..if u have say a 3 inch isolated run to the dash i'd say no probs starboard side, but i still ran this latest one along port side to keep away from all cables and dash wiring.

If u first wipe clean with acetone rag, those stick on clips mean u can run a tranny cable anywhere and usually no need to get near other cables or anywhre it can get jagged by gaffs/rods/etc. Just have a v slight bow/low point for any potential water to drip off it between clips. Check first but running port side for a starboard tranny also just means u end up with less excess cable to loosely curl up out of the way.

I agree with keeping it well clear of all other wiring, even drilled a hole in the transom to run the cable away from all the others.
Had to drill below the waterline to get the length up the Port side, did I mention I hate putting holes in boats below the waterline.
There's probably plenty of people who have run with the other wiring but they could be the people who can't get the most out of their sounders because they can't run higher gain. They could be totally unaware of what they're missing out on, even in auto I'd assume the gain is cranked down to achieve a clear screen.

    Thanks for the responses.

The cable enters the hull near the top of the maxi transom (quintrex) and originally was run along the hull of the boat on the starboard side, then up the side of the boat behind the upholstered sides.

Running it down the portside is probably a no go as i have the pos and neg amp powering a couple of amps running down this side.

I could lift it off the floor and run the under the storage compartments which are a few inches off the floor to keep it away from other electrics and speakers then run it up the side of the hull near the front of the boat behind the upholstered sides again.

Is this a fishing boat and if you are running amps what are you fishing for
