Brisbane Offshore, Jigging, Trolling, Bottom Bashing

    Hi all,

Just trying find out if anyone has had much luck jigging and trolling out from brisbane.

Was out at sqaure patch a couple of weeks ago with no success. Plenty of bait but also about 12 boats there. Is anyone having any luck at the 35's or the 33's.
however a month ago went out during the week with no boats except for bill corten and got buckled up a few times but only feeding the sharks an easy meal.

Also have the mackeral made an appearance yet.

I have the marks and the gear just need the weather and the fish to be on my side.

I dont know much about bottom bashing out there and want to give it a good go. what have people found to be the right rig and bait. Saw a guy pulling up good size snapper every drift the other week and i couldnt get a sniff of the fresh bonito i had down there. thought it would be a good bait...?

Any help on anything would be much appreciated as i want to show the missus that spending money on fishing is well worth it. haha...

    cheers
    Shaun

seems like you're already on the right track. macks have been caught recently but none to any great size from the people ive been speaking to. Any Fresh bait should do the trick. maybe try some livies or plastics

You may have to try a variety of baits until you find out what works. Mulllet fillets, squid, pillies, livies - yakkas or slimies...etc.

Also for the snapper try floatlining rather than straight bottom bashing with patternoster. Heaps more effective IMO. Mackeral should start to show soon with a bit of luck. Very hit and miss but if you put the time and effort in at the usual haunts it should pay off. Seem to get reasonable results slow trolling livies or dead baits.
    Good luck

Yeah cheers guys. I basically got it figured I think. Just gotta wait for the weather to take a walk. But Fraser for me for 10 days leaving Saturday so that will be good fun. Supposedly some guys get spaniards off the beach. Would love to hook one off the beach.

Hopefully with a bit of luck I will be able to get out there after I get back. Hopefully get myself some good fish.

    Cheers

try floating whole pillies or with a small sinker on and let if slowly sink down. i usually fish 12 mile off sunshine coast and rainbow beach, seems to do the trick. if you wanna get some good cod, find a spot with alot of bait action and through down a live yakka or slimy, cod will smash it.

im heading up to fraser on saturday too man, can't wait!
