Lowrance vs huminbird

Well i went and checked out the lowrance HDS7 touch, with scan at northside marine today.

It looked great, big screen, good images, very crisp, and the touch is a real plus.

This is the one i want.

Now i just have to check prices,

Very very good idea. If the TOUCH suits your requirements, then get on board now. You won't look back, that's for sure.

I think the only real difference between Humminbird & Lowrance is Humminbird have there down & side imaging built in whereas Lowrance require a separate little black box to run the down & side imaging.

I bought a 798 last year from the boat show because of the above reason.

That's not the difference when comparing to the HDS touch units. The structure scan box is built into the unit now.

lol leelee ...i want a hds touch now....there will be some good deals on the hds gen1/2 10s since i already have the lss1 anyway its probably the cheepest way i can go big screen......if i get a 10 does it just hook up to the hds5 i have through the lss1 box? and use the hds5 for charts or just run it as downscan or normal sounder...

Hi mate.

Yes the Touch is what everyone wants now. I assume there would be some good desks around soon.

You can't share the actual maps across the units, that is if you use a map from an SD card. The units have their own pre installed maps.

Now running 2 units you have some options.

Do you want to only use the new HDS10 as your Sounder only unit? If so then Just plug the yellow ethernet cable from the hds 5 into the hds 10. There will however be no sharing of way points or data between units. You can purchase another ethernet cable and then both units can share some data. You should then be able to mark a way point on the hds 10 and it appear on the hds 5. You would also be able to use structure scan on both units if you wanted to.

Ideally you should power up the nmea network with a starter kit. Connect both units to the nmea network plus both units connected via ethernet and use one unit add the primary source that the gps comes from. This way you can share all info between units. That's basically how I have my system setup.
