Red marble

Hi everyone,

Finished this today. This rod is a present for one of my nephews. He's into red and gold so I played around with a little SAP and pigments a little and went with this. I'm still learning with this stuff and I really think less is best and the underwrap plays a huge part in determining the colour results you are after. I used a metallic red underwrap with Venetian Red, Aspen Gold, night sky (black) and white Bullard pigments

Yeh .and after recently doing a couple marble jobs ..I also came to the conclusion that less is best

Ian the SAP is an additive you mix with the pigment and epoxy. It makes the pigment/epoxy mix go rubbery and stops the individual colours from bleeding together. If you don't use the SAP and you use red and white together, for example, the colours swirl together and you'll get various shades of red/white and pinks. This method keeps the colours more original yet still allowing the marbling features and time to play around with techniques to get different effects in the marble.

Great work Mark and I couldnt agree more with less is best, I have been mucking around with marbles for a couple of years and always get best results when I dont go overboard.
