Thread: Thread Order??

    Thread Order??

All, just about to bind a couple of game fishing rods. Normally i do my under and both overs in A but i noticed herabouts somewhere that C get used a bit on these heavier rods. Would you go A on the underbind, then the first over in A and then finishe with a C? what order is it normal to use the different threads in. Understand that putting c over A makes life easier when binding because of the increased diamater and hence i came up with what was thinking above but maybe i'm missing something.

I'm only a newby at this but pretty sure you have to go from smallest to biggest when overbinding should you go for more than a single.
Also pretty sure you need to use a C for a game rod for added strength. I'd be interested to hear about this one as I was told using A for an overbind will only be ok for light rods. Anything over 20lb and it gets risky. But that was for just a single A.

Im not an expert on heavy game rods but have built some 37kg bent butts for a mate. One has hauled in a big blue tail wrapped after 6 hrs.It was wrapped using a under double over in c.He loves them 4 calstar blanks 1 seeker.

    Re: Thread Order??

usually i do "A" under and over , but on rods 24 - 37 kg i use "A" under and "C" double over and "D" triple over for 37kg and above chair rods
if you dont want to have different thread thicknesses you can double or triple over in "A" and it will still work fine on most guides/rods up to 24kg

When do you start to use 'Parramatta' rope?

Has anyone ever seen a guide 'breakout' of it's binding?
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good

I have only ever used A for under bind and over binds (double on game rods) and no. . . never seen a guide break out of any binding, except for right at the end where it cracks a bit of course.

Thanks all, I to have never seen a guide brake out, my only real reason was i have some C laying around that i never used and maybe a couple of heavier rods were a good way to burn it. Might do my final over in C.

    Re: Thread Order??

I'm with Noel. I use double A and have never had a problem on rods up to 24kg.....in fact single A on many of my older rods some of which have had some ball busting battles off the rocks with big jews, sharks etc. Think of the principle of braided line or spider webs....lots of very fine strands together are very strong. I reckon the guide would break long before the thread ever did...and once it is coated in epoxy, it is bloody strong.
