Garmin sounder plotter has frozen!!

Guys,
My gps map 500 series plotter/sounder has frozen, i knock it on and the Garmin logo screen comes up but it goes no further. Have tried to do an update using the boot block method and it loads the update from the sd card however when it reboots it freezes again at the same point.
I'm thinking this unit has had its day and i may be looking for a new one. Thought i'd try on here before i write it off completely just in case anyone has recovered a unit from a similar situation,

Unit is around 2.5 yrs old but hasn't seen alot of time on the water

Hi Wayne,
I'm in Wakerley Brisbane, but wasn't sure if Garmin would be able to help as i bought the unit when i was on holiday in the states. If there is anything that could be done it would be hugely appreciated, like most other i don't really have $1k hanging around to replace it!!

Let me know if you can help mate or even what my options are if any,

My unit is the 535s with the higher def screen which bumps up the price a bit, its the equivalent of the 556s
