A bad days fishing has got to be better than any day at work......
Does anyone other than me think that there is something weird about the Premier's suggesting that the state government might subsidise every resident's electricity bill now that there is the forecast that electricity accounts might rise dramatically soon?
I recall LNP supporters lambasting the Labor federal government's giving most of the population free money to stimulate the economy when the GFC hit. (I did not get any! Bugger!!!) Despite all of the concerns that that handout just went into plasma TVs, thus boosting the Chinese economy, it did seem to work in terms of keeping Australia employed throughout the GFC phase.
In the light of Newman's self suggested largesse in relation to the power bill issue, do LNP members now agree that the Labor initiative was a good thing?
Does it also seem that, if the answer to the power cost increases from the Premier is simply to hand out money, the LNP is devoid of serious strategies in the area of infrastructure supply costs as well?
I think you have a causation/correlation issue with respect to the effects of economic "stimulus". No the Labor initiative was not a good thing and nor will it be a good thing if done by a Liberal government either.
As far as supply cost strategies are concerned, isn't the whole point of having expensive "gold plated" infrastructure so the state governments can rape our wallets to increase their income? It was devious of Gillard to allow this system to happen while NSW and QLD had Labor governments, all the while intentionally making electricity more expensive herself through the carbon tax and solar schemes, then to turn around and blame state governments for making electricity too expensive. Isn't the whole point of the carbon tax to increase the cost to force people to change their behavior IOT reduce carbon? If so, then surely state governments adding to that expense is an even better thing to make the social engineering happen faster right? Oh wait, she doesn't get to redistribute that wealth how she sees fit does she?
Ouch.
Democracy: Simply a system that allows the 51% to steal from the other 49%.
With the Dept of Fisheries attached to the Dept of Primary Industries, the portfolio will always go to the National's side of the LNP and that means MP Mark "Gunna" Robinson has no chance. That was the convention when we had the Lib/Nat Coalition and it was carried through into the Qld LNP. DPI always goes to the Nats, it's the same for Lib/Nat Coalitions in every state and also Federally. Bligh split the departments in her Feb 2011 reshuffle and so shortly after the LNP did the same with their shadows, (hence MP Mark's short gig). As soon as they won the 2012 election the LNP reunited Fisheries with the Dep of Primary Ind and it went from MP Mark to a National (McVeigh). Campbell isn't so stupid to give this portfolio to a Lib, esp a SEQ Lib, that would bring about a massive swing to Katter in the bush and maybe even cause more country LNP members to jump ship.
What I'd really like to see is Fisheries run as a stand alone department but controlled by the state's Tourism Minister.
Hi Bluefin,
While the wheels turn slowly they do turn and I will keep advocating for the rec fishers in my electorate of Clevleand. I will keep doing what I told rec fishers that i would do because I believe it is the right thing for fishers, the environment, small business, tourism etc ... BTW, it is kind of you to think of me, but note that I am fine and Mike is right about the portfolio stuff. And John Mc Veigh is doing a good job of it IMO. He has responded to things raised by rec fishers, as has Steve Dickson (Marine Parks) and Andrew Powell(Environment).
I am confident of some further good balanced outcomes this year, though I am only one voice. Note the tourism connection that Mike raises is interesting. The tourism minister, Jann Stuckey has announced a consultation about tourism and rec fishers. If no-one has posted it already I will. Happy fishing over Easter.
Regards, Mark
Hi Mark , as it's Easter , have you ever heard the "Tortoise and the Hare" story.....
I've since found out it was a BullShit scenario , and still hasn't been able to be supported by scientific analysis to this day...
p.s. *please* hit the "go faster" pedal *please* ,
I'll pay any doublepoints , double fine costs you may incur for "speeding".....but not an RFL
Happy Easter![]()
Seriously there is no "tourism" in Moreton Bay, it is mostly private residence and industry shore access and most tourist with a boat would drive a few extra 100k to get some elbow room.
What is this Tourism?
Mark the reason you do not have any tourists in Cleveland is because the land has been divided in an unsustainable manner so that only a few private owners get access and the rest get to look at the train station and the local RSL club.
How many people holiday in Cleveland?
None, from what I can tell it has no tourist activities or shore access for families, weekend fisher people or indeed anything much.
The old adage of "If you build it they will come" rings true, just no one seems to have any smarts on how to build sustainable tourism.
Pollies will look back in years and kick themselves, because in a lot of areas they have made quick sales over long term investment.
Yet the thing is at the time it was viable, come forward 30 years and times have changed, turns out there is value in sustainable tourism, due to changes in political and economic climate since the 1980's.
Dan
Don't worry MRD, our very own LP has a great understanding of interpreting "what was said" to "what it really means" .....
he'll get back to us , if any expectations from RecFishos are misunderstood...
all's in good hands
Make much more sense coming from LP , LP has this uncanny knack of even seeing whats not there. Absolute genius i say.
DoNotFeedTheTrollsAandBelligerent![]()
Dan, as much as it pains me to stick up for MP Mark after the way he treated Ausfish members, and the way his party has treated Qld' freshwater anglers since gaining power, it should be pointed out that Mark's State electorate of Cleveland does include the holiday destination of Stradbroke Isl.
Rest assured Mark that unlike your 2 Ausfish bodyguards/official appologists, I won't post info if it's not the truth.
~~~><))))*>
Hi Mike , Mark is possibly checking whether those 2times x double drunks in one(1) car on Nth. Straddie recently , live(s) in his electorate.....
[but more probably realises shafted-RecFishos need some "PAYBACK" for many years of sufferance under the Labor Regime...]![]()
An idea would be to reduce the use of cars on the Island, bike/scooter hire or bring your own.
Personally I do not see the car barge as sustainable.
I mean why would you want to take your car on holiday anyway, they are a headache.
I would not develop Stradbroke Island towards car access.
I have never been to Straddie I might be inspired to go over there now.
Can you hire a scooter/bike?
It might sound funny but that market is massive.
Sorry it was not fishing relevant but yet, no reason fishing would suffer from that.
That is my 2c.
Dan
Cars are handy over there Dan, it's a pretty big island, 3 seperate townships and 20km from the barge landing point at Dunwich over to the Point Lookout township. Plus around 45km of beach to drive if you have a 4x4. There is a bus service from the barge and most of the resort type accommodation will pick you up, and yeah you can hire scooters over there.
Dan you should visit Straddy sometime, it's a beautiful place.
Cheers
Mike D
50% discount?? MRD ....sounds like a winner imo ....
