    Re: OZ Craft 640

    Cheers Guys for the comments.
Brisbane Yamaha have agreed to upgrade the trailer. We are sharing the costs.
Will be rated now to 2.4 tonne i believe. No issues now with over weight and added braking ability.
Not real happy about forking out the extra funds, but better off this way.
The other option was to drop back to 150Hp and reduce the fuel tank size. This was never going to happen. LOL
Still very happy with the rig and the support from Brisbane Yamaha.
Hope this time next week not be be on Ausfish but to be on the new pride and joy.
    7 sleeps to go
    Cheers Oz

Hey mate, I think that is a great decision. That way you are not stressing every time you load up. Plus the extra piece of mind of having control of your trailer at all times will be a relief. I can't believe the difference between the control on my camper trailer and boat. I can stop my car and camper just using the brakes on the trailer but with the boat I feel like I am being pushed around all the time.
    Enjoy the boat.
    Cheers

CHeers Ozy, yeah piece of mind will be worth it. The missus agrees, which always helps.
The $3000 could of been spent else where, but we can save for that.

i bought a new boat 6 years ago and was also told it would go under 1900 kg . 200 liters of fuel and lightly loaded it went 2750 kg . Cost me 3k to correct it . New buyers beware as there are many manufacturers that arent as entirely honest as they could be . The second hand boat market can also be a trap

Yes a wise move I think as she looks like going over 2T. Thing now is to try and look after your new brakes if you intend to submerge it. Lots of boaties like to sink the trailer and drive on and of and fair enough it is easy enough but your trailer will suffer and particularly the the bake calipers which are likely to sieze up within a year or two unless you fork out for the more expensive full SS type and I don't know how long they last either.
I have chosen this time round not to sink the trailer if I can help it being the way the previous owner set the trailer up and I use a 4x4 recovery winch to launch and retrieve the boat, doesnt take much longer, about a minute to wind of and maybe a minute and a half to retrieve but I don't even need to get the rotors wet this way so the trailer is still like new after 2 years. The cost of the winch and battery I am sure more than pay for themselves in peace of mind and less repairs and maintenance.
I am just near Bribie so happy to show you the system if you are ever interested.

    Hi All,
With the change of trailer and still waiting for the anchor winch the baot should now be due mid next week.
Did get a look at some of the gear about to be fitted and very excited
Should be posting some more pics of some of the hardware fitted tomorrow night.

Nice boat and I like no paint as well. Yeah if the $ were no object and it was a keeper it is alloy trailer and stainless electric over hydraulic brakes but money is always a object.

Have looked through the build photos but I can't see big scuppers to self drain the deck? Where do they drain to?

Hope you launch soon and it is everything you expected. The wait for all the little fit out items and the couple that don't work right first time is frustrating but all part of a build.

    Re: OZ Craft 640

Seriously looking good and no paint and filler to cover up the usual and can change things over the years without having to repaint - good choice Bet ya have that tingling feeling. I think it will perform really well and hope you come back after it loosens up a bit an dtell us how it goes.

Just going to play the devils advocate for a second. Please don't take it the wrong way as I'm sure the dealer and builder are Ok and with the excitement of getting it in the garage.....I know the anticipation and you have big money invested with it now fitted out.

Make sure you grab all your serial numbers etc etc and get the bloody thing insured and also ( if it is not under finance) get your hull numbers, trailer numbers , engine numbers etc and register your interest and get it all registered into your own name if not already. Would hate to see you get this close and for something to go belly up.

Now sort of taking the piss but a serious undertone as well. People never want to comment on others dream boat or criticise design as you can imagine. It is not a big issue it is just something to be aware of with a limitation of that type of drain. Every boat has some limitation by design etc etc.
They call that a scupper ?? ( said with crocodile dundee twang in the voice) That isn't a scupper it is a rainwater drain for when on dry land and will be interesting to see where the waterline is when fully loaded . Nothing worse than damp feet in winter. It has high sides and big bow on it so it won't ever be easy in normal use to get a big green one over the front unless you do a lot of bar work but if you do get water in on that big deck it may be a issue. It can't get out those pissly little drains very fast and you will have the drain plugs in? If you cop a big one you don't want water up to you ankles on the deck you want it either out the scuppers ( not a option) or you want it in the lowest point of the bilge ( giving you ballast stability) being pumped out at a million gallons a second waiting for the next wave. It is the "free surface affect" of water on a "self draining deck" that changes the center of gravity and causes boats to become uncontrolable wallow and flounder. You may already have a large drains that also go to the bilge if the water gets deeper than a inch or so at the transom or the builder may have done something else to counteract this like a small pit with a big pump in it at the rear of the deck. Is there any reason they havent done a 4 inch round burst scupper tube in either corner and leave the little pipes there as a rainwater drain?

4 inch round scuppers? Have never seen one, who does them?

    Re: OZ Craft 640

The new boat is coming along nicely by what I can see. So the water test will be lots of anticipation and some nerves no doubt.
There will always be some little issues no doubt as with any new boat so just always be mentally prepared for any as they come up and try and have a positive approach to it all.
With the floor drains/scuppers it would be perhaps better if they were larger as Cormorant's post but at the end of the day you would have to do something pretty crazy to get that much water dumped in there to get swamped. My boat has seen some big seas with waves breaking over the roof yet looking back to only see a bucket full of water on the floor which would drain quick enough through the drains if open. The cab and side decks should shed the large majority of water in extraordinary circumstances anyway should they ever happen unexpectantly. If you lose power and at the mercy of the sea then you can be in a bit of strife no matter what scuppers/drains you have, but the bigger the better and higher above the water line in that situation I guess.
The best idea in any of our relatively small boats is to remain sensible, work within your level of experience and knowlege, keep a good eye on the weather, setup and maintain your rig well and have a backup and survival plan regardless.

Anyway I will look out for you on the water...

    Hey Guys,
The scuppers are 2 40mm dia holes on each side of the deck, water can also floor into the kill tank and drain away as well.
I have brought some motor bike exahust plugs that will be fitted into the inside of the drain holes to keep the water out.
if in messy water and water coming in the boat they will be pulled out and sat in the side.
Went for a water test on the lats 640 Centre Cab, had the missus, myself, mate and mechanic all on one side corner and only a little water came in, so pretty much happy with the design.
Insurance will be through CLub Marine as have had other boats insured before and seem to have a good rep.
Will mostly launch from Bribie to head out past the cape or scarborough if going to Tangalooma for a family day.
The boats name is Why Knot and hope to be on the water next weekend.
Appreciate everyones comment and look forard to seeing you out on the water.
    Cheers Oz.
