    Tuna off Bribie Island

    Hi All.
New to the area and feeling out the spots. Been around Cape Moreton, caught some good fish at deep tempest, but have not been successful any closer.
My mate did a mid day drift yesterday off Bribie and landed a 11kg yellowfin tuna drifting a pilley.
A bit surprised with the result, Are they common to the area?

Thats not a real good pic of the fish but it looks more like a Longtail Tuna and not a Yellowfin

Yea, its not a great shot of the fish but looks like a Longtail. Plenty of them up in that neck of the woods at times. The larger YFT seem to stay wider most times

Still a good fish from a drifted pillie. Well done. Some days you can throw everything youve got at them and still come up empty handed

    Well done mate.
    Cheers, Doug.
Love to use Preditek or Kingfisher lures or Viva Lures when I am out fishing.

My initial thought was longtail as well but have a look at the eye, it's alot rounder and higher than a longtails. It could be a YFT or maybe remotely a Bigeye but I doubt BE.
The body though is very longtail-ish.
    Good catch either way.

yeah the eye deffo looks a bit different to a longtail.. its really hard to say from that angle.. could be either i guess..

Looks like a longtail to me, they normally start hanging around about this time than move into the bay and annoy the hell out of me as everyone I know has caught one but I am yet to even get one on my line yet bring one to the boat. Great fish!
