MudHole Shipping Rates have just got dearer

Just a warning guys..... Mudhole have changed there international shipping rates.
Fedex now use .....Diamentional Weight .....which is not good for blanks

a quote from a email I got back from Mudhole

Yes that iscorrect unfortunately. Fed Ex is using the dimensional weight, and the way itis calculated is L x W x H divided by 139, so if you have a package that is 89”x 5” x 5”, the dimensional weight will be 16 lbs, even if the package onlyweights 5 lbs

My order came to $310 and new shipping charge was $145.....

They better use skinnier tubes then I'd say.

They will find their overseas sales will drop dramatically.
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good

Mate the only way you can make it work is to combine a few orders and split the freight between them. It is way too much to justify for one blank! Try Matagi, I seem to get a good deal through them. They have blanks and all the components. Their turn around time is also excellent. The freight and service from Ross (The Rodworks) is also excellent and hard to beat in Australia.

Yeh Mate ..Service has always been good from Ross and with High blank freight from Mudhole...local comes into the picture
    Also will check out Matagi......
Will post the whole email here again ..goes on to talk about the pricing of smaller parcles

Yes that is correctunfortunately. Fed Ex is using the dimensional weight, and the way it iscalculated is L x W x H divided by 139, so if you have a package that is 89” x5” x 5”, the dimensional weight will be 16 lbs, even if the package onlyweights 5 lbs. we are working with both Fed Ex and DHL to lower the rates. Fornow, the best thing to do is to order as many blanks as possible at one time, this will reduce the shipping costs per piece. But not change the dimensions,so the dimensional weight stays the same.
We have worked out with DHL to shippackages through a service called DHL Global Mail, this will reduce the cost ofshipping drastically for packages under 39” and under 22 lbs. not good for blanks, but all other orders, it will help.
We are very sorry about the increase inthe shipping, but we are working on reducing it as soon aspossible.

In view that the US and so much of the world economy is up the s***, many overseas online retailers started jacking up their freight charges so they also made some $$ on the freight...but as Finga says...better be careful because if you push too hard...people will look elsewhere. I would say in this case, Fedex has decided they want to milk the cow as well......

I was looking at importing a reel the size of a tld 15 and they want $39 us deliver for that... I think in some instances they def bung on the ship cost to make more $

Re: MudHole Shipping Rates have just got dearer

We could always band together and order in bulk. That would really drive down the price of a single order :-)

Re: MudHole Shipping Rates have just got dearer

I'm in for a bulk order! My current cart at mudhole is over 900 bucks, just shy of the $1000 limit before they put on the import duty. I need to work on it a bit more though.

Re: MudHole Shipping Rates have just got dearer

The theory of a bulk order is great but pretty hard to stay under the magic $1000.....only about 6 or 7 high end blanks or equivalent

Re: MudHole Shipping Rates have just got dearer

Just thought of something. How would we sort out the delivery.
I suppose the total saving in cost for the purchase of all the items should outway the total cost of all the delivery to each destination.
Then again that $1000 limit is sooo limiting. lol

Re: MudHole Shipping Rates have just got dearer

Thats also another part of the prob. I have had some blanks delivered quite cheaply over the years but whenever I have tried to get quote or send blanks as an individual ( and not a company with an account) no one seems to be interested......

Re: MudHole Shipping Rates have just got dearer

Guys not sure if they have fixed it but I just got charged a tad under 100 bucks for an order that had 11 blanks in it plus a bunch of other stuff. I was a bit worried when I read this thread but had no choice. Might be fixed?

Re: MudHole Shipping Rates have just got dearer

    Well that sounds better .....
Maybe a few other guys can tell us what there shipping cost was from Mudhole from now on
I also read on facebook where US rod builders are also whinging about the local shipping rates as well, seems there local stuff has gone up as well with Fedex and other shipping couriers
