Hooking a garmin 400c upto a lowrance hds
Well I know they are 2 different units but I am hoping I can use each Ethernet port to use my 400c as a 2nd display if so what can I display on the 400c

Nope, won't happen. Ethernet on each is different system.
You might be able to hook them together via NMEA 2000 network, but not sure what you want to achieve by linking them? In other words, it might be possible, but not achieve much.....

There is no ethernet on your Garmin 400C and you wont be able to use the 400C as a second display.
Best you might get is depth, speed and temp from the Lowrance onto the 400C via NMEA 0183 if the Garmin has it.
Unfortunately marine electronics aren't like consumer electronics where you can plug a Sony DVD player into a Panasonic TV.

Cheers for the help I bought a 1198 so no I won't have any issues with seeing every thing. Considering this is a kayak it should do me
The 400c has a weird caanet port or some thing kinda hoping it would just work as a external moniter. But now I got a 1198c I won't fit anything else
