Brisbane Boat Show
Hi all, just wondering if anyone has had dealings with Brisbane Yamaha, or Baysport boats.
I went to the show today and in my opinion they have the best package for the price, but as im fairly new to boating i was hoping to get some info from you guys.
Thanks

Hey ant1971,
I agree with you mate. I sold my previous boat and i'll be picking my baysport 2012 585 up in a few weeks which i bought from brisbane yamaha about 3 weeks ago.
I think they are quite reasonable value and they are finished quite well too.

Re: Brisbane Boat Show
Hi Darren, thanks for the quick reply, have you water tested your 585?
Downside for me is i am flying back up to Cairns 2moro, so i wont have time to water test the 545. I did however manage to speak to the guy who owns Baysport and he was very helpful and answered all my crappy questions. lol
We were thinking of putting a deposit on one 2moro, so if you give me anymore info it would be great.

Re: Brisbane Boat Show
Nah mate have'nt water tested one but i'm sure it will be fine and that was the one the missus liked. ha ha.
I'm sure it cant be any worse than the boat i had previously. There is a ausfish member called WalrusLike who owns one and is very happy with his boat so that gives me some confidence that it will be fine.
So far it's been a pleasure dealing with brisbane yamaha with all questions answered and all phone calls returned promptly.
Have you looked at the video on the baysport site of one being made?
For under $50000 i think the package i got was good value. Not as big as the haines previously mentioned but i pushed my budget and missus to get what i got, so i'm happy.
Any thing i could tell you you've probably been told by the baysport owner, but if you've got any specific questions i'll try to answer them.

Re: Brisbane Boat Show
Thanks Darren, i think WalrusLike has replied to a thread i posted a couple of months ago when i started looking into getting a new boat, i am thinking of upgrading to a Yam 100 4 stroke, the package is still good, still cheaper than i first thought we would be spending.....and also my missus liked it too!!!!

Re: Brisbane Boat Show
Hey Rosco, i wish i had 68k to spend on a boat, because a Haines would definately be an option, but sadly i dont, i need to keep lookin for something a little cheaper, like 30k cheaper!!!! lol

Re: Brisbane Boat Show
Yeah i'm upgrading to the fourstroke too, i've had an etec and all i can say is i'll miss the power but not the problems and uncertanty of whether or not it will get me home. There are plenty of good fibreglass boats out there but not that many that are good at our price range. I think baysport and yalta seem to be pretty good boats for the price, not as flashy but still good honest boats that will do the job well.
I went new for the same reasons you are thinking as i was worried about buying someone else's problems and so was my wife.
Brisbane yamaha deal a lot in second hand boats as well as new boats but they don't have a huge amount of new floor stock.
So they own most of the boats in the yard and the rest are on consignment so they are a pretty solid business that are'nt paying for a heap of new boats to sit in their yard.
Also they didn't ask for huge deposit to be laid down so that made me feel at ease.

Re: Brisbane Boat Show
Hi Darren, well the deal was too good to pass up, so we have bought a Baysport 545 Fisherman. Like we said ive upgraded to the 100 4 stroke, the downside is that ive got to go back down to Brisbane to do a water test, as they couldnt organise one for me, but it gives me an excuse to jump on a plane again!
Hopefully it should be ready last week in Oct/ First week in Nov...........cant wait, my first glass boat, then some decent trips out to the reef.....if the weather keeps good. Will post photos asap, be good to see some of yours when you pick it up.

Re: Brisbane Boat Show
Hey Ant,
Congratulations on your new Baysport purchase. Did you get the boat show special deal?
I recon you made a wise choice on the 100 4 stroke upgade too.
I'm interested to hear what you think when you go on the water test. When do you think that will be?
Mate your going to be chompin at the bit by Oct/Nov just like i am now, but the wait will be worth it i'm sure.
I must say that fibreglass boats do ride nice especially if you can get the bow down far enough to use that deep v to cut through the chop. The worse thing i find about them is being very careful not to bump the hull on the ramp and getting it onto the trailer 100% right every time so as not to do any damage that way. But you get used to it of course.
My last boat had trim tabs (which i used all the time) but my new baysport wont have them so i may have to look into getting some if i find myself missing them to much.
I'll be sure to post some pictures when i pick her up

Re: Brisbane Boat Show
Yes, i got a good deal...i hope. Paid $37k for the 545, with 100hp 4 stroke, which gives the square fuel management gauges, the upgrade on the Garmin 551s to the chartplotter, so i think we did ok.
Ive been looking at flights, trying to find a cheap round trip, i want to do the test asap, but not booked anything yet.
It will be my first boat with a drive on trailer, so will be nervous the first time.

Re: Brisbane Boat Show
That's good, it sounds like a similar deal to what i got.
When you retrive her for the first time, stand towards the center of the boat while you control her and just pretend nobody else is there watching, just concentrate on the job. Line the bowsprit up with the center roller on the trailer and if your getting close to the trailer and she's not lined up in the middle wack it in reverse and go back and try again. Just don't leave it till your too close to the trailer cause it takes a few seconds for the boat to slow and start reversing. Some times if it's windy it can push you of course. Don't forget you have little to no steering if it's not in gear. Take your time and don't rush it, it doesn't matter if you have to do it 5 times it's not worth damaging the boat just to get out of the way of other people waiting.
Once you've made contact with the trailer and it looks good and in the center, hold it there in gear and raise the motor a little so it doesn't hit the ramp as you ease the power on and drive up to the winch post and hold it there until someone hooks up the winch and safety chain.
Hope this helps you out.
