There are alot of falicies going around about destroying the cards by using them your computer, these are simply not true as long as you treat the cards properly. The real issue is navionics refusal to replace the card if it gets corrupted, meaning you will be up for another $300.00. It is a good Idea if you are not that computer literate to use another card, for no other reason than to be on the safe side.

Go down to the shop (office works or Hardly normal etc) and by yourself $4.00 1GB Sandisk card, (after testing numerous cards I have found this one to be the most reliable), the units ability to read the SD card is due to the SD Card readers, of which there are many various versions thats why some cards work and some dont, htat applies to SD card readers in printers, PC's and Laptops.

AngryAnts, method to load the files is correct, you need to use the pages key to get to the appropriate screen, then change to the SDCard and load your file.

The reason the for the navionics reader is the data is encryped using the serial number of the SD (Secure Digital) card, that is why you need it for updates, in the past you had to buy it with the navionics software.

I know a shitload about these cards! I have put mine in a standard card reader many times, even taken a copy of the chart files and I have never had any issues. Think the threat comes about from trying to stop people taking copies.
