Garmin gpsmap 551 won't start up

Help please. Installed new gpsmap 551s, turns on, shows the garmin logo, turns off. Now am I missing some really basic function here? Hubby is an auto elec so I am assuming it is wired in perfectly!!! Old garmin worked fine.
Some people ask me how I can sit on a riverbank all day without catching a fish.......who are these people???

Doesn't sound good. Have you checked your battery voltage as that would cause that to happen if it was low enough. If it is good then the unit may be dodgy I am afraid, but Auto Lecy or not well worth checking it all over before you return the unit.

lol I think I would agree with johncar, if all connections have been checked to be good then low voltage sounds like the culprit, could be you have a cell in your battery about to drop out.

Same happened to mine...there's a Garmin guy on this forum and he told me to download the "Firmware upgrade". I installed it and voila!! Worked like brand new...maybe you could try this?

Well it was a low voltage problem in the end, all good now. Just need to learn how to drive it properly! Is it worth upgrading the card to the Vision one?
