I love my Garmin 5012 and have networked Radar and Sonar plus engine interface. I have a Furuno FCV585 as well but hardly ever turn it on, the Garmin is very user friendly, all touch screen and big enough to split 2 or 3 ways having GPS map, sonar and radar plus fuel monitoring.

Just did all research attaining to HDS10 gen2 to Simrad NSS12. HDS 10 gen2 $3600 with LSS-2, 83/200 transducer and 8p136xl navionics card Platinum plus townsville to goldcoast or there abouts. NSS12 $5500 with LSS2, same navionics card, BSM-1 (must have this to use as a sounder), and 50/200 transducer. NSS12 better screen resolution but only one card slot. same processors. I have done the whole local thing and BCF has NSS12 on the shelf (no HDS 10 gen 2 on shelf but in boxes out back.) but wouldn't have a clue what they do or are!!!! really it depends what you want to do with it all. I purchased HDS10 gen 2 will be testing thursday afternoon. first real run overnight friday night out to the fern country.

    Hey

I think that the Garmin GPS Map 750 is a top unit and value for money at about $1500.00

    Cheers

I am with VS, it was even better value up until a week ago when you could redeem the G2 card

    Re: New chartplotter

Chart and radar only or all three (chart, radar and sounder)?

My pick would be a Garmin 5012 touch screen (or 15"), radar (what ever size makes you happy) and GSD 24 (non chirp) or GSD 26 (chirp) depending on what you are fishing for, what depth and how much you want to spend.

Simrad make nice(ish) gear also and if you want structure or side scan (shallow water) they have it but it seems their chirp stuff has a way to go before it is fully sorted.

I have a 750 , it is great as stand alone chart plotter but now I have added radar splitting the screen makes it a touch small. The overlay seems like a waste of time so far.. If I could fit it I would go the next size up in screen if you want to add radar.

Hi Qlder1, I reckon a 5012 would fit straight in your dash, getting cheaper all the time. Either that or dual 750's, nice lookin rig you have there in your avatar, makes me a bit envious..
    Hows the Radar going?

What's wrong with your Navnet II? Are you running C-Map or Navonics cards? I love Navnet II. I can't get my head around Furunos Navnet 3d though. Been in a boat with HDS and radar. Not impressed. Was a bit rough but we knew we had a 7.2m cat beside us an couldn't pick him up on radar. Contrast that with a Navnet II and a 72Nm open array and coming through the Whitsundays I was picking up light planes and birds out of visual range and then when I came into range I could see the tuna under the birds. Yet to use the new Navico Simrads. The old Simrads were bulletproof commercial quality machines. Can't come to grips with them being souped up Lowrances now. Love my basic Lowrance plotters though. Maybe try Garmin. The Garmin guys love their gear, I just prefer Navonics cartography.
