Furuno 585 or 587 ???
Finally decided to get a stand alone fish finder after just using a hds10 combo for the last 12 months which hasn't really cut it. For those presently running a 585 or have looked at this situation aswell, is it worth waiting a few weeks for the release of the 587 or are the new features not worth it seeing that there will be some great deals on the run out 585?
As far as I can see the main new features are increased pixels, bottom discrimination and fish size?
Help appreciated.

Hey stu the 587 is already out. You may be able to get a good deal at the boat show this weekend at Brisbane if your close to it. Also a good chance to alk to the furuno guys..

Re: Furuno 585 or 587 ???
I've got the 627 and have owned the 620. The 627 has over 4x more pixels so you'd expect a clearer picture but the difference between the two is profound - much better than I expected. They have also fixed the screen to operate in sunlight with polarized sunnies which is probably where the major change is as my boat has a canopy but lots of reflections get on to the screens. All other functions are as per normal which is a classic case of if it aint broke .....
The fish size thing is a bit of a gimmick for me as it is easy to pick fish out and the bottom discrimination is good when you are looking at new ground but it uses valuable screen real estate so I use it sparingly. There is supposed to be an upgrade to the processing of the info so I don't know if this enhances the readings.
