    Barra blanks

I'm about to build a light baitcaster on a MHX MB783 cut down to 6 foot 2 and I'm quite impressed with this blank. At 10 to 17 pounds it's on the lighter side for a true Barra stick but MHX offer the MB784 and 785. Any feedback on these?
I also see St Croix do a 12 to 20 pound 6 foot blank, 3C60MHF that sounds like it has the strength. I never got around to that Phenix order but am still looking at that Ultra MBX blank too.
Any other options out there that I should look at? I'd like to keep under the $100 barrier.

    Re: Barra blanks

I don't mind the idea of trying Samurai BB382 or BB451. I wouldn't mind giving them a go soon as Baitcasters for Barra.
Sorry they're not under $100 though.

    Re: Barra blanks

Samurai nv7 is a awsome baitcaster but over $100
the 784's are a nice blank as well, not as much grunt as a nv7 and a bit longer as well
a lot of guys are liking the longer baitcasting rods for barra, i still like 5'6" - 6'
i have a 3C66MHF which i am making into a 6'6" spin rod and it has plenty of power
i am verry interested in the new line of casting rods by bushido
the mb68/12-25 look good and ther a a great price at under $70.00

    Re: Barra blanks

My brother has a couple of NV7 rods and they are great. Have not seen those other Samurai blanks but have seen and tested the Sp442 next to the NV7 and had a hard time telling the difference between the two. If my brother didn't have a couple already I'd get an NV7' just looking to try something different.

    Re: Barra blanks

You can get the full range of Samurai blanks from http://www.m u d h o l e.com.au/inde...ategory_id=326 or TRW and they do a decent service job. The new BB range of blanks are Samurai's more recent and advanced edition to the NV range. You can get the BB351 and BB451 in the 6'6" length and the BB382 and BB442 in the 5'6" length.
I've got a few rods to build but I'll be getting around to trying one of these soon.

I know. Sorry about that. I tried typing the link in the reply and it was replaced with xxxxxx.
Try this one. The ####### is suppose to be mo tackle. I think this forum may have a problem with the mo tackle. Not sure

    Re: Barra blanks

I built a 5'9" barra baitcaster out of the MB784 last year...a fairly radical chop (all from the butt end), but the blank is fast enough that it suffered little to my eye. Great for casting lures like Flatz Rats up to about 20g or so but is overloaded with a 28g lure, in spite of the rating, IMO. The blank represents sensational value though. Very crisp, comparable to a GL3 type blank. I have a MB783 blank leaning against my wall that I haven't built yet...was maybe planning on doing the same as you though and building a lighter baitcaster. It was even better value...Mudhole sent it to me in error and told me to keep it rather than send it back!
