unluckiest flathead ever

A mate of mines who fishes a bit off his backyard in broadbeach (dead end canal) had a bit of luck the other night. He had a few mates up from melbourne who had never seen a cast net before, anyway after about an hour of casting one of the guys proudly comes up with a legal Bream.. because the other guys were using livebait and not satisfied with the small capture decides to chuck a hook in it and throw it back out.. obviously the other guys were in histerics..
the decision was made to then go to the club for a beer or two, when they get back as luck would have it the only rod still buckled over is the "bream" rod. after a bit of a tussle and the guys saying to cut it off as they thought it was a ray this absoloute beast comes into view.... the tradgedy is they didnt have anything to measure it with and they also did the right thing and let it go.... once in a lifetime Flatty... Any guesses on the length??
i reckon it looks 100 for sure.

Pity they did not get a pic of it on the tiles or something we could scale off to a reasonably accurate measurement.
It looks a solid metre fish in that pic anyway.

that is a classic prehistoric lizard right there. congrats to the "mexicans" & good to hear it was released. old mate in the pic still can't believe it by the looks. would be bloody close to 100 or maybe a touch over. have no problem with you calling that a "metre model". broadbeach here i come.

Measure your mate from the head to the knee and use him as a measurement. Looks like it'd go from his nutsack to the top of his head. If he's my height that'd make it right around the metre.
