Thread: Garmin losing depth

    Re: Garmin losing depth

I think it looks too high as well but it could be the picture.

I used to have a poverty pack Eagle sounder that came with the boat and it also used to sometimes lose its brain in water under 2M *the transducer was right*.

    Hey WalrusLike,

yeah i agree with you, at rest in the water it should be fine. Do you have a min depth setting when in manual mode? Manual mode gives you a lot more ways to customise the view as you can narrow the screen down and get more detail for the particular depth your in at the time. When you've used it in manual mode for a while you get used to changing the depth and it becomes second nature.

I'm used to humminbird so i'm not to familiar with garmin features.

(Off topic again)Have you been to the baysport site? There's a video on there that show's one being built, including the under floor stringers etc. I will try to remember to ask about the foam filling under floor next time i speak with the dealer.
Yes time does seem to be dragging along all of a sudden.

    Hey WalrusLike,
I forgot, also try backing off the sensitivity when in the shallow water, see if that helps maybe. But be sure to put it back up again when back in deeper water.

    Duplicate post.... Stupid Internet, doh!!

Yeah I've seen that video and really like the foam filled glass chassis idea. But the areas I mean are between the floor and the hull between the chassis arms.

I've tried it with gain turned off and various manual settings. Need to try a firmware update... Maybe this weekend.

The new firmware seems a bit better but not perfect.... Still happening.

    Hi Walrus

Suggest that you pop a post up here:

    http://www.bbcboards.net/lowrance-garmin-sonar-gps/

These are the Bassboatscentral boys from the USA and what they don't know doesnt matter - almost!

Over there, they have "pro's" that are sponsored by all the electronics manufacturers and they often come onto this board with answers to these sorts of issues that you are having. In fact, might be worth searching on that forum as someone will probably already have posted about the same thing and the answers might be there already. It's free to join as well.

    Cheers

Note to self: Don't argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience....
