I have built quite a few trailers over the years, a couple of cat trailers (the easiest of all to build) and a couple of standard mono trailers, it is quite easy, but very time consuming when you are doing stuff in your home garage, you can buy almsot every part for a trailer off the shelf these days, making it much easier to do a quick job on the small fiddly bits and pieces, if I was building a mono trailer, I would make it in a V to suit the boat and just have a cradle with skids on it, that way the boat has to go on straight and centred everytime, but the trailer is more or less only good for one boat.

Looks great mate, keep up the good work. are you going to skid it or rollers?

Tim, your a man of many talents. Make sure the drainage holes are big enough for when it's galvanised, or they will drill some more holes in it for you, but not where you want them.

My trailer cost $560 for galvanizing back in 2006.

The boat will sit on full keel rollers i opted for a long skid but my boat has a 'v' point to the keel and it just wouldnt slide easily.

So another couple of hours this afternoon see's a little more progress. I re-centered the trailer on the original marks i worked off of the previous day so i could measure out where the draw bar cross support was going to go I spent a little time doing this making sure it was square not only from the closest cross member but from the back of the trailer also. Once i was happy with it all it got tacked into place then i put the draw bar in and made sure it corresponded with my center line on the concrete and all of my center marks on my crossmembers. Once it was all tacked into place it was flipped a couple of times and completely welded off. If some of you think why the draw bar appears to be short compared to the rest of the trailer its because my winch post is going in the front 'triangle' part of the trailer. I did this because it shortens the length of the draw bar and minimises weight on a single tube ex. 'draw bar'. Overall it will just make everything more rigid and minimise flex. Because the distance from my furtherest forward crossmember to the draw bar support was larger then the distances between the other rear crossmembers i threw in and extra 2 length ways braces to the front crossmember. I did this out of personal preference because in my opinion it ties the 'A' frame part of the trailer into the rest of it.

Thats a clever thing you have done with the braceing Tim and makes a lot of sence to do that, what radius did yo get the cross member bent at and what lenght axil are you putting on it ,cheers Chris.

Looks really good. Be easier to mount a decent removable stone shield on the front of the trailer as well for the far north with the rails like that .

Yep, saw a trailer like yours (rolled lower supports) next to my build site. Seems like a really good design to make it easier to drive on.

Chris i didnt know exactly what radius i wanted i knew how much drop i wanted which was 150mm over a 1440 wide beam. The drop required can be a universal drop however mine was the 150mm simply because im going to have larger then normal wheels on it aswell as shackled springs which makes the whole trailer sit alot higher.

Trailer will deffinately be a drive on drive off arrangment just cant have it any other way ragardless if its a tinny or not. Didnt make any progress today but hopefully tommorow ill have the winch post and all the side tie down rails on.

Bought a few more bits and peices of steel yesty so thisafternoon i managed to get all the side tie down rails on i used 16mm solid bar for this and had spacings around 500mm apart. Tommorow i should be able to get the winch post done aswell as all gussets on crossmembers and a plate where the 2 outer rails meet

Great idea on the tie down rails. It will be a good looking trailer when it's finished.

for my 2 outside rails and my 3 middle crossmembers i was quoted $150 however it took them 3 weeks to bend them. after saying they would have it done in 3 days. I got absolutely stuffed around by the place i went to they even bent my steel wrong and then tried telling me they will just roll it back. after all the rubbish when it was finally ready they tried to invoice me for $240 bucks i put $150 bucks on the table tied my steel down and walked off. I highly recomend NOT TO USE Brisbne metal form. i repeat NOT TO. absolutely disgusted with how i was dealt with and how they do buisness.
