Changing sounders: hds10 to furuno 585

Just a quick question guys. I currently have a hds10 combo with a thru hull transducer. I am over combo units and am looking at either a separate hds8 or 10 and running one as a chart plotter and the other a fish finder or go to a furuno 585. If i chose furuno, would I have to remove the whole thru hull transducer, replace it and reseal it? I'm just not sure how they swap different brand thru hull transducers - let alone the cost. Cheers Stu.

Stu, I bought the HDS10 thinking it would do both... but soon discovered how great a Furuno 585 is while on a mates boat...
I now use my HDS10 as just a Chart plotter which it does great. And installed a Furuno 585
I also had installed a 1kw through hull transducer and I was told by Pete (the guru on here with installs) that I could change to the HDS by just getting a different end on the transducer cable... I Guess it will just depend on what transducer you have installed now

    Cheers

Fish feeder is correct, I added a 585 to my boat using the same transducer that my HDS10 was using, plug change at the dash is all that is required. both units use airmar transducers, they just have different plugs.

Although the 585 is a fantastic sounder, consideration should be given to the 'redundancy' factor of having 2 x HDS10 units - in case one cr@ps itself while out on the briny! This probably means that you will need 2 x combo units, or maybe you can network them etc?? I don't know anything about the HDS units, but they can't be that bad as a sounder to discount this benefit?

At any rate, isn't the 587 out now or due soon? With the additional features (especially the bottom discrimination features) they would be worth it in my mind...good excuse to upgrade my 585 to one I reckon . Just have to convince the boss
    Cheers
    Brendon
