    Video editing software ??

Just been stuffing around making some (ametuer) fishing vids using the standard Windows movie maker and was curious to what else is out there , any ideas on some good software would be appreciated.
Also ,when I wanted to upload my vid to youtube it wouldnt accept the file , some 31kb, and I had to save it differently, once saved the file was over a 1 Gb and downloading it to Youtube takes hours, is this normal ??? or am I just going about this the wrong way,

    thanks

I use AVS video editor and its not bad.
I think it cost $39 to buy, but there is a demo version available to try (http://www.avs4you.com/).
It has a save for HD YouTube option which will process it as a avi (5mins is 160Mb). This will normally take about hour and half to upload on Telstra ADSL.

I have been using Avid Studio lately and it is a full blown movie editor that gives you heaps of room to work with clips and movies.
Pretty easy to learn and produce good quality vids.
I have been using mp4 format to upload to youtube, they load very quickly.

Its a Gopro Hero, sound is all but nonexistant hence the music overlay.

Most of those set and forget cameras are ok, if you remember to trun them on.......not what I remembered to do until 1/2 way thru the fight yesterday DUH!!!

The big problem is battery time, heros give you nearly 3 hours only, if I could hard wire it to the boat it would be great and I would capture nearly 10 hours recording on the SD card.

You can get the skeleton housing for the gopro

Does not give the same waterproofing though but you can hard wire it.

Thanks Steve, seen those housings on the market but I regularly fish in thye rain and it cops spray etc.
I am thinking baout an external sound pickup tho that I will drill the required hole in the side of the housing and grommet the plug into the side with. I may also investigate doing similar with a 12v power supply too.

The sound pickups are shown in this vid:

Should be relatively easy to do the adjustments to the housing for it.

Webby - also have a look at a Contour Roam (other model Contour cams also can interface with GPS and Bluetooth by turning your Iphone into a remote display screen). Sound is good. I have the basic Contour and it will get sound from the stern, when mounted on the dash. All the major retailers have them - Mr Smith, Mr Norman and they can be purchased on-line from Photocontinental and the like. Pretty rugged little gizmos.

In terms of software, Adobe Premier Elements is great VFM and like all Adobe products, there are plenty of free tutorials on the web, conducted by Adobe. (They film their webinars and then post them to the web. Wonderful concept). You've got full output options in terms of formats and resolution. There's also a free trial download at Adobe. I down-loaded a heap of different trial versions before settling on and purchasing Premier Elements.

I mostly use MS Movie Maker. It does the job for belting something out quickly. I also have Pinnacle. It has a few more fancy features. I have found the movie component of Nero handy as well for converting between different formats. Adobe Premier is proffessional stuff and that is just what Greg used for his DI Pt DVD.

    Re: Video editing software ??

I've changed over from the PC environment to the Mac world and for the past few years been using Final Cut Pro. I find it really great to use. As with most apple products (in my view) it manages to simplify some of the more complex workflows allowing you to perform some pretty cool effects.

I also use the GoPro Hero2 and think it is fantastic. Also have the version 1 but tend not to use that anymore. One of the new features being released at the moment is the WiFi bacpac with wristband remote. It enables you to turn up to 50 cameras on simultaneously using the wristband remote. You can control all the functionality of all cameras from the remote. Great for fishing as you can set the camera/s and flick them on without having to run to them when you get a fish striking.

I don't really have any fishing footage I can show but if you check out my Kokoda Challenge Video it will show you some basic capabilities of Final Cut Pro X. By the way, I recorded the audio separately and edited it back together later.
