A morning at Mud

Headed out to Mud yesterday morning for a solo session. Left Pinkenbar Ramp at 7.00am, with the wind at 3 knots. A great run across to Mud, and not another boat in site. Found a few marks on the GPS and still having the SP that Mossy gave me on Sunday, I sent it into the water while I started to rig another. Before this SP could get to the bottom it was hit hard, and my little Bait-runner is screaming. After a short fight a 37cm snap is in the boat. Cool, in for a great session. It was released to grow bigger. Third cast with this SP and another snapper is on. Again after a short fight another snapper in the 37ish size is released. Gee this is a good SP. Half a dozen casts latter I am on again, this time its a keeper. The snapper on the deck is 56cm, this one goes into the esky. I best go back and try that again. So I moved back to my original start point for another drift. This time on the second cast I am hit really hard, the fight begins, the fish is winning, then after about 5 minutes, all over, Bugger not again. Wind in the line and see jig with SP all gone. Shattered !! Got no more.
Continued fishing for another hour or so and only managed a Sole. Headed home with a good fish in the esky, and wondering what would have been if I have some more of those SP's.

Mate thanks for the report, you did better than me and i burnt a whole lot more fuel, must admit catching the snapper on plastics is great fun although sadly few and far between, sounds like you had enough action to have enjoyed the day, looks like the wind was kinder to you, be keen to pop out to mud this week but looking at the forecast doesnt look promising.

The story of my life at Mud on SP's!! Nice fish and at least one to take home...

Good stuff mate. Should pop over and show you a few of the selections I have and go from there, give you a few pointers and see how they get glued on with the loctite. Just give me a bell sometime mate.

Hey Guys, Thanks for the support, one has to be on the water and throwing SP's to catch a fish. I will continue to chase these beasts from the sea as long as I am able.

Well done mate. I matched that almost exactly, except I was out last night in the lashing rain with a nippy south westerly, think I earned my snapper and chips!
Been a good winter so far.
With the plastics, do you just drag them with the drift?

Hey Alexl, I am getting to old to venture out in the rain and wind, lol. With my plastics, I tend to throw forward of the drift, however spending a day with Mossy and Netmaker I will start to drag one out the back as they both have caught good fish on the drag line. It's all trial and error I think, you just need to have the plastic in the zone as long as possible.
