Moreton Island fishing
Hi All,
A mate and myself have a leave pass for a couple of nights mid August and are looking at doing some beach fishing. It's been a while since we've been to Moreton and I do like the place. Does anyone have any ideas on how the fishing is over there at the moment? Is there much pro netting going on?
The other options would be Nth Straddie, Fraser or Iluka, but the latter two are a bit of a drive. And I wouldn't mind a camp fire, so that might rule a couple of the spots out. I'm not a big fan of DI lately, though I grew up fishing it 30 odd years ago. Too much broken glass and lack of fish. Went to Bribie a couple of weeks ago, but the fishing was grim there too.
Appreciate any input as to where would be a good spot for a couple of nights and any info on current Moreton fishing.

Hi, I'd try the rocks at north point this time of year should be plenty of bream and tailor. Also off the beach at night around the yellow patch area, get some xos tailor easy armchair fishing using rod holders and beers. Pete

Re: Moreton Island fishing
If you decide to go to Moreton, and the weather turns sour between now and then, can I suggest you check the beach conditions with the rangers before you go.
I was over the eastern side of Moreton late June/early July for a week. Big seas, bad weather and the full moon tides resulted in no beach at all to drive on at high tide (late afternoon /early morning) and no fish apart from small dart and mullet coming through all the churned up sand out the back of the gutters at low tide during the day, which was the only time travelling on the beach was possible.
This was along the entire eastern beach.
Tally after 5 days of beach fishing (first 2 days rained and blew its arse off) was 3 just legal whiting and 2 just legal dart (just a tad frustrating)
Others I spoke to over there said they weren't doing much better.
There would've been a feed from either Yellowpatch or the headland, but whenever I suggested it, the 'handbrake' played up
Cheers
