How to paint a fishing rod
Hi guys need some advice? I want to paint a fishing rod as the colour has faded and looks ugly. I have stripped the rod down to a blank a lightly sanded smooth. Im going to paint it but m unsure what paint to use. After speaking to several people I am convinced that krylon fusion paint is the way to go as it has a flex agent in it. Just want to know am I on the right track? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: How to paint a fishing rod
I have painted heaps of rods over the years
If you are going to coat the whole rod in clear finish most paints will work fine (even cheap spray packs )
However if you want to do it properly and have a really pro finish 2 pack automotive paints are the way to go
They are gloss of the gun and require no further treatment and they will flex
If you want to go metallic you must use a clear top coat to seal it and protect the aluminium flakes from corrosion
I recently painted a rod in midnight blue metallic which was a automotive 2 pack system , clear over base

I thought that auto acrylic would have been the best because u can put a flexible additive in in and then clear it giving a gloss finish

Re: How to paint a fishing rod
yes barrick it lasts years
acrylic is flexible enough without any additives, but it scratches a lot easier than 2 pack paint
acrylic is fine if the whole rod is to be coated in finish
standard graphit blanks look awsome with a blue or red pearl coat
i am going to do one in blue pearl soon
i will post a pic once it is done

Warning Warning will robinson.
2pac paint should not be sprayed with out the propper use of filtration or breathing masks. Many people spray this paint outside but I heard of a recent court case where someone passing by got a lung full of the overspray. You can buy iscocynate free "spelling", its much better but not free from total risk. I spray all my blanks, riggers using 2pac in a booth using a positive air mask and suite. It may pay to take your blank to an auto paint shop and have them do it. I dont whant to sound like im gettig all legal on your arse, but in this day and age where the EPA and council for that matter will come down on your butt real quick. People are suing for second hand smoke so think how much worse 2pac will be when and if some one with asthma has an attach and drops dead.

Acrylic is much cheaper, not as strong, easy to spray and wont kill you.
2pack, much dearer, needs a hardner, looks great and will last 100000 life times. Overspray on everyones cars will cost you a motsa and aybe a kidney to repair. It will also kill you and every one else around you including the dog, if the guy that ownes the manaro next door with the overspray all over it dosent kill you first.
If you dont know how to spray 2pack then it will look like toe jam.
Im just saying. I will now shut up.
