    mounting a thru hull on the outside??

    i dont like the idea of drilling holes in my boat,plus there in hull acses is so small you could barely fit a childs arm in there, so i was wondering if i made a bracket up off the back of my boat with a drop down pole and plate would a 1kw through hull transducer work....??

    It works for me. I have a centre line 600W through hull mounted on a tab. That is my "cruising" transducer. The 1KW TM260 goes down when I am in "search" mode. I do not travel faster then 12 knots with the 260 lowered as there is a huge amount of stress placed on the slide even at that speed. Plus there will be an enormous rooster tail.
    If you have a 12 or 24 degree offset ducer such as a B164 I would look at getting a tab glassed or welded onto your transom to conform to your deadrise angle. That will allow you to travel at speed provided that your hull does not aerate the water flow over the face of the ducer. What model do you have? Pics of hull showing strakes would be nice.
    The plate on the pole will work but only at slow speeds.

    Yes, when I get one I will be doing as Peter with his drop down slide arm. I also have a 500W cruising transducer which I will retain for that purpose..
