bad luck mate. Rest assured youre not the only one scoring donuts from there. that flathead looking thing you caught was most likely a Grinner.

I took 3 mates out yesterday afternoon for a night fish at Mud Island, with hopes of maybe some tailer or Snapp. Left Shorncliffe at about 4.30pm into a pretty ordinary bay, but it was a good test for the new rig. Once over to to Mud with the protection of the island it was much better, we anchored up and got a Pike (I think thats what they are called, look a bit like a flathead?) in the first 2 minutes, and then nothing, zip, zero, zilch. We tried a few different spots around the north and north east of the island, it was blowing a bit much to head around the southern end. We tried some reefy bottom spots, some deeper spots and some shallower spots, nothing was even looking at our baits. Frustrating!!!!
Oh well it was a good night regardless, was the first time I've fished this boat at night, coming home the bay flattened out pretty well but was awfully dark because the moon was behind cloud cover.
Good night regardless but would have nice to be filleting fish this morning!

You have those days Matt but at least you got to take your boat for a run as you said. Mine 21ftr has not been out for 5 weeks now and it is killing me haha.
and i thought i'd cleaned em all out at mud - grinners and donuts
fishing's as simple as 3 P's - patience, perserverance and PLASTIC!
gotta take the bad with the good, have a selective memory and a camera

Good to hear you have had the rig in the water for a fish since the upgrade Matt76 sounds like all is ok.
Mud is fishing a litle bit strange at the moment I took dad over ther last week for one snap and two whiting both whiting were caught on a 4/O hook with a piece of mullet that would choke a snapp.
I expected a Tailor or two but not one too be seen the week prior to this the water was boiling with the buggers.
You'll have to post some pics of the finished conversion. (If you have and I missed it let me know where to look).
Cheers Axl
Sorry Axl I forgot I havent got better pics yet, I might head over there again this weekend and get some pics while it's out.
The boat was excellent, I am so happy I did the conversion. We fished 4 people out of it which was definately cramped but achievable. The wind break from the cabin was worth every bit of work to do the conversion, coming back home at 10pm in winter and I was quite comfortable, would not have been too pleasant before. I'll get pics very soon and head back to mud as soon as I can, I'm not going to give up on it!
