I believe that you can only connect LSS or LSS2 to a HDS sounder or HDS Combo unit, not a chartplotter such as the HDS-7M unless you connect through ethernet but even then you still need a HDS Combo or Sounder connect3ed within the "network".
Grand Marlin is the man to ask - send him a PM or he may respond here.

    Re: Furuno and lowrance

LOL ... You are all wrong!

The Lowrance units are MFD's or multi function displays.
They essentially act as a computer screen and will display whatever information is fed into them.
Therefore a 7m can run every accessory in the Lowrance range, including LSS, radar, all nmea 2000 etc.
In this case the LSS2 structure scan connects to the 7m via Ethernet so the answer is definitely yes, you can use structure scan on your 7m.
And no, you don't need any other transducer other than the LSS2 transducer.

As a footnote, a Lowrance "M" series GPS only unit is also capable of displaying sounder info if it receives info from a BSM1 module.
This can either be a separate module or the built in ones in the HDS combo units.

You Furuno people have so much catching up to do

See what happens when I go away for a week!

    Re: Furuno and lowrance

Can I ask WHY you want to link them together ?

The only things I could think of was to mark Fish on the Furuno and have that mark display on the Lowrance GPS.
OR your transducer on the Furuno has temp readings and you want that on your chart.
You can't link the Furunos Transducer to the Lowrance and run them both at the same time, you would need to add different ends on the Transducer cable, and the Furuno kicks the Lowrance butt as a fishfinder so pointless anyway.

Just a little confused as to what your fully wanting to do by linking the units..

    Cheers

Just wondering what i would gain by doing it and what i have found out is you can use the mark button on furuno to save points and also move cursor around and save points any wherefrom the screen thats about the only benifit i reckon would be worth while.

    Re: Furuno and lowrance

Back to the original question and yes you can and I have done it via NMEA and I like it. First up I can display speed on my Furuno. I only have a 5" Lowrance so everything is bigger on the Furuno. Also when drift fishing the speed jumps around less than on the Lowrance. That way I get a better gauge when I am drift fishing if I am drifting at 0.8 of a knot or whatever compared to the Lowrance that jumps from 0.6 to 1.0 every second and all over the place and you have to average it more in your head. Also at lure trolling speed to get a good speed, it jumps around less. The other advantage is you can hit mark on the Furuno if you mark a fish or high spot, even if it is a while ago, scroll the cursor over it and hit mark again and it will show the lat and long on the screen. It doesn't automatically ad the mark, you would need a Furuno plotter linked in to do that, but you can manually enter that waypoint into your Lowrance and you know it is the exact numbers for the high spot or the fish or whatever. How many times at speed do you run over something and then go bugga after it has been and gone? Now it isn't such an issue.

Actually does save it but only to Furuno head unit with a limit of 20 waypoints

    Re: Furuno and lowrance

Thought I would bump this post up with an update.

Just came across this item http://www.mark.fish/ which will apparently connect a Furuno to any GPS.
Also has an option to add a remote mark button anywhere on the boat so you can mark a spot even while your fishing down the back of the boat.

Could be a handy option for those who already have say a 585/588 and a HDS on their boats.
