Struth 11 guides on a 7 foot spinner. Does this help? I'm going to give it a shot, maybe.

i would not waste my time with micro guides
knot clearance alone turns me away
try getting a leader knot through a #4 guide
#16 stripper guide would work well with a closed face reel
    my 2 cents

    Re: micro guides

Hi Daintreboy thanks for that ,ive read that a while ago i though id find something on the rodbuilding org on it but more chats on casting rods, the micros are a totaly different thing from what ive read on the net,its like takeing that concept guides a step or 2 further, they build a lot of spiral rods with the micro guides that supprized me,wraping those little guides is the headake for me you use very small zipties to hold them.

Rfarren this rod is not for me someone wants a tourniment rod built,if your running 2or3lb line straight through well they dont use a leader at all sometimes if they do its only a 4to6lb,on a casting rod they start with a szie 6,the idea behind it is to catch the line from the very start to stop it moveing around in the guides and they start the but guide even closer then normal and this give you more accuracy and distance and it keeps the blank crisper with the smaller guides even though theres more guides.

As this fade has not real hit here yet it will be interesting to see how long it is before it takes off,we will see how ealse chimes in with there thoughts on them, cheers chris.

Microguides are generally used by N American and Japanese bass anglers who use braid or ultralight mono straight through to the lure, with no leader whatsoever. You'll struggle casting braid-mono leader knots of any kind through them.

Hi Ian not just North america thing its all over the USA in the bass fishing and not so ultra light line either there use 17lb mono or flurocabon, the pro bass fisher think that it makes a difference with the micro guides with there 4day tourniment, less fatigue as well ,the guides cut the weight down by 1/4 to1/2 once, but rods like... kistler rods.. has a butt weighting system to add weight to the butt to balance out the rod to the reel with there micro guides rods, very clever but back to square one not weight loss there.

    Re: micro guides

I've played around with a few rods with micros and they feel fantastic. It's not really a weight thing (though I guess they must be lighter), what I noticed most is the difference they make to the behaviour of the top half of the rod. The difference in recovery speed is remarkable; they feel very "raw" (close to a bare blank in some cases) and super sensitive. But don't expect to be able to cast any kind of connecting knot through 'em.

Production Duckets and Kistlers...the Kistlers feel great. Not sure of the length...7ft maybe? Most American rods tend to be around that mark

Besides all that, I think you will need a microscope to bind micro guides on. If not at least micro fingers.

    Re: micro guides

Keep in mind that the smaller the guide the less stable it will be. They also are more prown to breakage from knots and knocks. With out sounding like Im bagging the yanks, but take what they say with a grain of salt mate. 90% of what I read on there forums is bizar at best. Micro guide may very well work for them over that way, but here in Australia they just arent practical. By all means build the rod with those guides but be assured you may see it again to repair or replace them. If the rod is a custom then at some point you the builder have to use our experiance to educate the customer. If you take your car in to be repaired you dont tell the mechanic what and how to repair it, that why you pay them to fix it. I listen to my customers and if their requests dont fit with what I know from experiance then I tell them. If they dont like that I tell them to find someone else to build the rod because I know it wont work or Im not confident in offering a warranty.

    Re: micro guides

Definitely have to agree, they are more hassel than they're worth. A mate had me strip down one of his rods and replace the micro guides with some standard Fuji BYAG guides.
Can't even tie a mono onto a braid main line. The knot gets in the way. I'd stay away from them.

    Re: micro guides

Hi Barick if your useing 2-3lb mono with no leader whats the problem and even tieing a leader to braid and not getting it throught the guide well must be big knots the size 6 standard guide is 4mm inside diamiter and size 4 micro guide is 2.54mm not much in that, a size 3 is 2.15mm and i wont be useing them, a micro guide is anything under a size 5, and the rods not for me if thats what a customer wants why not, how many guides did you replace on the rod that your mate got?
