Hey boys, what is your recommendation for winter whiting rigs? What pound line in mono or braid and what works best ?What size sinker when drifting ? What size hook ? What bait ? I fish a bit for summer whiting with yabbies with moderate success so I am seeking your ideas for there smaller cousins. Thanks

There are a few rigs you "can" use, but I use a simple rig...

    Main Line (braid) -----------&Mono--------------Sinker---Swivel-----------Hook
    Or...

    Mono-------Sinker---Swivel---------Hook

As for sinker size, as big as needed to keep it on the bottom at the rate you're drifting at..

Squid for winter whiting... Don't bother with anything else.

Whiting you only need 4lb line, but if a flatty picks it up, might be in a bit of trouble. lol Use a long shank hook..

no science in it at all really. light line light sinker swivel trace bout half a meter then small long shank hook. Bit of squid strip or peeled prawn works ok. I like to use a bit of red tube before the hook. Not sure if it really works but cant hurt. Hang it over the edge of the boat and wait til they hook emselves.

Greg, got 85 off nudgee night before last.

Dean, what was size like? Send me a mess and tell me where.
I always fish for whiting with a patanoster rig. About meter and a half of leader. I don't think it makes any diff whether main line is braid on mono. I use 6 lb main and 6 lb fluocarbin leader with 2 droppers. With hooks I use red true turns in size 4 or 6. The rate of fish swallowing these hooks is near enough to nil. As dean said just drop line over side of boat, and as Wayne said enought lead to hold bait on bottom. Any of the ways work, just have to have fish biting.
I have been finding lately that u really have to play them.
I only use small strips squid but I have tried ox heart and that works as well.
Havnt given the plastics good go yet but will try next trip.

    Cheers
    Greg
