Thread: Whiting hiding today

    Whiting hiding today

The water today was like glass, and had trouble getting a feed of whiting.
Tried Margate with about another 6 boats, drifted all over for just a handful.

Then decided to go back to Woody point, on a sheet of glass. Had a couple of marks there , where we were successful last year.

Started to get a few but died off. Flew back to margate, got couple more then had a quick throw again at woody pt.
Pulled the pin at 2pm, ended up with 40 reasonable size whiting, 1 sole, 1 flathead.
Just could not believe water could be so flat.

    Anyway beats working.

    Cheers

Dean, I also do the bridge drive every day.

It was nice to do a midweek fish.

Might have to make it a habit. Lol

    Hi Seahorse,

It was a great day to be out. I must have been one the 6 boats you saw. I was in a Quintrex Explorer with a red bimini, same time and same place as you. I had no luck at all today so spent most of my time marking spots in the clear water.

    Hi kaptain
I do remember seeing that boat. I was in a seajay territory with 50 yammy on back. 2 of us.
Just don't know where they went today.
I got 60 there couple weeks ago and 36 last Sunday. All good size.
I will be back there again on saturday.
U been getting any out there?

    What bait do use?

    Cheers
    Greg

    Hi Greg,
I am new to fishing around here and I used tweed bait that I picked up on the way to the ramp. The squid was never touched. My mate that came with me was getting bites on Pilchards and the sandworms were the best for us today. I was getting squire with Pilchards last week. All undersize.

    Re: Whiting hiding today

About a month ago, but on very small whiting. I don't know, I always get shot quality over there.
We got some really big whiting at the rous on Saturday, but the weed was a real pain.

Think I will just keep around woody, quality has been pretty good.
I only ever use squid on a patanoster rig, and 9 times out of 10 I get them on bottom hook.

Squid, fresh is best... Don't use garage bait, for the love of god!!!

I strongly reccomend Tackleworld Sandgate for squid.. Mark gets it from the local trawlers fresh and it's frozen the same day. I went out a couple of weeks ago from Margate and got 46 on Thursday and 35 on Friday.. All were great sizes too. 24-29cm

I have a short trace with as small sinker as possible.. (Just enough to keep it on the bottom)... Whiting are a bottom dwelling fish, you want your bait on the bottom. That's why you mostly get them on your bottom hook Greg..

If you wanted to use multiple hooks, then I'd suggest putting a heavy singer up top, and a lighter singer down bottom with a couple of hooks between so your bait is "dragging" along the bottom instead of floating around off the sand.

Thanks Wayne for that info. U are a wealth of knowledge sometimes, but don't recommend a lighter singer down bottom. Bit hard to sing underwater. Loll

    Ha ha ha.. smart ass...

My brain is pretty messed up at the moment... Damn these newborn's!! Ruin everything, including prime whiting fishing times... ARGH!

So when u selling the boat?

    Re: Whiting hiding today

I'm not selling it, but I'd be happy to downgrade to a 5m tinny with a 50 on the back.. But the guy who owns it is a selfish bastard!! :p

Hopefully get out over the next week or two.. while I'm on holidays.. (if that's what you can call them)
