Something Else to Check on the Trailer

While I was out dicking around in the driveway I happened to lean on the spare wheel on the trailer, and was shocked when it nearly fell off.
I think it has probably kissed the ground going over a bit of a hump in the driveway a few hundred times.
Imagine the carnage if that came off at 100kph!

I have got a new one and unfortunately it is just not practical to put it on the winch post, so I have moved it back as far as possible which raises it another 25mm.
    Fingers crossed!

A fairly generic multifit design, just fatigue by the look of it. The drawbar can cop a lot of vibration too and with a wheel hanging off it, not surprising to see the metal cracking like that. I agree getting it back as far as you can should help avoid that again. Good it was discovered at home..

It has got me looking closely at the welds and plates on all parts of the trailer especially the winch post etc.

Am i surprised,,,Nope. This for me is just another example of Dunbier quality.I constantly go over mine with a fine tooth comb.I am confident I will come up with something in the not to distant future.
Lucky you found that when you did,not a happy outcome if it fell off while on the road...Jim

Whether it be Duniber or whoever it pays to look over everthing twice at least once evey 12/18months depending on use. After gruntahunta's (spellling) thread on bearing miantenace I decided to look at mine last week during the rain, I found several issues that may/could have caused problems within the under carage and braking system.

All are now all fixed, give your trailers the attention they need guys they live and work in extreme enviroments.

ive seen that many times ,not sure if its a dunbier part (seen them on other brands)but it appears to be that the frame it bolyts to is typically along the centreline of the holes and just fatigues along the line it appears to be a design fault rather than cheap material so if you put one on that looks the same guarateed it will do it again ,gotta get rid of the extra holes .

Weak design, the holes lining up with the welded area, you would expect it to fail there.
That broken spring looks a poor setup as well, axles straight to the springs with no plate creates a point load.
Only 3 spring leaves as well. might be somewhat under sprung!

So I need to buy spare hub and bearings... Where do you guys get them?

Places like CBC probably are dear but good?

Places like Repco or Supercheap cheaper not as good?

I want to have a fully set up spare wheel on a hub ready to bolt on.
