A Toyota dealership disconnected a friends in this way [in the key barrel]
Im sure they would have done their homework If people are worried put a switch in the circuit
Muffling the audio alarm is another way but you may not hear it when the water in fuel alarm goes off which then may cost 8 – 10 grand to fix.[ Its on the back of the instrument cluster]
Disconnecting the driver’s door switch is another way but the car will think nothing has been opened and relock after a short period [and thats not good if you have the keys in the car]

We just unplug the sensor under the seat in our hilux's. works too.
