Don't worry, the reason they are protected is not because their stocks are low, but because they don't want people getting ciguatera.

Yep awesome bait for reds/ large mouth......... and one of the best fighting fish .get one on over 6 kg and these boys will try you out all the way even from 50-60 metres

Also there is no fish species book available that is exhaustive of all species around Auatralia. It amazes me that even some reasonably common species are not included in many books. For example, a Robinsons Sea Perch. ON the fisheries site but in no book.
I have seen them in a massive fish species book from Hawaii.
