Wait for it............
Good to know.
Looks like one of those fish you can't ID, but bring home anyway, and then find out it's a known carrier of ciguatera and it ends up in the wheelie bin
Give your mate a clip in the ear

It's a no take species and with no malice or embarrassment intended what so ever It's always best to have a positive ID on a fish before you kill it and bring it home just to find out it's no good to eat and have to waste it by throwing in the bin. Another way to look at it is how can one assume it's of legal length too if a positive ID can not be made.
Best to take a pic of it and throw it back if it can't be identified positively on the water.
Don't want that to sound like a dig........we all make mistakes.![]()
Lesson learnt. My little fish id chart photos aren't always perfect matches for what I catch but I never thought it would be a Chinaman. From now on if I'm not 100% sure, back it goes.
Wow! Will wonders never cease?
Someone posts a pic of a 'no take' fish and receives kindly, considered and polite responses of the correct action to take.
Don't tell me that the Ausfish forum has finally matured to a much preferred level of civility...

I have a book on the boat that has most reef fish in it..
If I don't know what it is I search for it in the book, takes a few min and your 100% sure of your catch...
Here is a link to an example, its not the one I have but would do the same thing..

Don't tell me I'm not the only one that has enough of the 'who da man' responses people like to give out when some makes a bit of a mistake.
Another fave of mine is the "just my opinion" or "just my 2c worth" but if you don't accept my way of thinking clearly YOUR wrong.
Gripe over for the day........![]()
"Just my opinion" but they are great cut bait for other reef fish
Guys over here in WA reckon they're pretty good on the chew too.
