Hi, I was reading about the wonders of Stanage bay. I contacted Von by Email, to ask where abouts long Island is located. The short answer was -"Buy one of my books!"
Can somebody enlighten me. I'm guessing its very close to Stanage bay.

hey pero. you prawn there all the time mate. its just west of russell
fishing's as simple as 3 P's - patience, perserverance and PLASTIC!
Its the large Island to the west of Thirsty Sound (ie west of Quail). It has mangrove creeks etc at the southern end and rocky headlands to the north (hold winter Barra apperently). Great country,

No idea where it is but I heard they make a hell of an ice tea there.
I heard Long Island is not that long , and it's not far from Stanage Bay, probably within Shoalwater bay's military training area.

Yo ho ho ho and a bottle of rum, here I go out, to feed my tum.
Yep the Horse is correct, its definetly on the Western side of Stanage, but to get there , you need a calm sea I reckon.

it's about 8kms west of the stanage bay ramp reasonably protected just beaware low tide means rock bars and sands bars everywhere if you want good crabs at stanage be prepared to travel to get the good ones and yes horse you are correct top end of quail does hold plenty of barra around some of the rock bars
No Mudcrabs around long Island or anywhere around Stanage as far as I know
The area west of Stanage known as the Narrows sure puts a scare up some of the grey nomads with their 3m car toppers. Skipjack and myself encountered at least 1.2m pressure waves when the tide was against the wind

Krusey,
Thanks for that info, is it possible to travel there using 13ft tinnie? Any crocs to be weary of in that region?

yeah it is but be careful when the big tides are on because of the washing machine is about 1km down the sound from the ramp and it can get fairly rough at times so try to stick to the northern side of the sound other than that it's fairly protected unless there is strong winds, i used to run my old 3.8m stacer up there, and mate there are crocs everywhere from gladstone to the north you might not see one but a hundred will see you, just don't swim with them, stay in the boat and you'll be fine
Krusey,
Thanks for that wonderful info and croc alert, Cheers, Bondy
