What's a good 12v inverter brand?
What size would suit me best? It would be used mainly for charging drill batteries, paslode batteries and maybe the very odd occasion a 240v grinder or hammer drill...

I have a 300w Dick Smith jobby which will run a small tv that size seems to run around the $100 mark depending on quality and the prices head north very rapidly from there.
You will need to know what your maximum power consumption will be and buy a size that will supply that much power. BE aware that you will need to run wiring and fuses capable of handling that much current.
I set mine up to handle a max of 30 amps with 40 amp wiring (6mm I think) to minimise voltage drop.

I also have a Dick Smith 800w inverter.
It runs my drills and grinder perfectly.
Charging phones etc draws very liitle and a 100w inverter would be fine.
Drills / Grinders etc draw around 750 watts, so the inverter will need to be a higher wattage than this. (say 800 - 1000w)
Also, there are pure seine wave and modified seine wave inverters.
The modified is a lot cheaper and is good for running drills etc.
Pure seine wave inverters are the best for sensitive items like chargers for phones and computers etc.
They are double the price of a modified though.
In saying that, I have charged drill batteries frequently with the modified and haven't had any noticeable problems.
