Fishing at Night - Lumo lights on your line

Hi Guys
After a bit of advice.
I like fishing at night but I have trouble seeing (i wear glasses during the day) even with a good quality head torch. I was fishing the local wall the other night and these guys had some sort of lumo light which floated on top of the water. I looked on MO Tackle, nothing. I looked at BCF online and they have a few different ones but i'm not really sure. A couple of things:
1. Are these rigged through the line (kind of like tubing but you must be able to crack them to create the light?); or
2. Are they rigged attached to a small float?

From what ive seen available at BCF online, i can only assume it's the float option? Any help would be very much appreciated. Has anyone used these before?
Would save me a bucket in tackle if i can get this sorted!!

how are you losing tackle ?,what about the snap lights attached to your rod ? will they help,or next time your there,ask the other blokes fishing,im sure they will offer advice.

Hi Mate
I keep losing tackle by not being exactly sure where the hook/sinker/leader is when winding in (it's a large rock wall about 5-6m high). It's pretty snaggy. You can obviously feel it a bit but it is tough going sometimes, particularly with lots of cloud or little moonlight. With the other blokes who are using them - not sure if they speak much english mate if you get me! Don't really need the snap light attaching to the rod, the headlamp is enough light to see the tip, it's more the line i can't see as well when winding in and they had this lumo thing floating on top of the water which i thought i might give a try.

It's a float with a small cyalume stick in the top of it. You can get them at BCF.

Hi Braders,
You can buy from Bunnings a fluoro spray paint. It's pretty expensive at $30 odd bucks a spray can. It's clear, but if you spray your sinkers, they will glow in the dark, and you will see them when you pull your line in. Shine your head lamp on the sinker, and it will re-energise.

Thanks cav. Thats pretty flash fishing! Might have to give it a try. Yeah $30 isnt cheap, but i'd spend $10 on sinkers alone most outings anyway! Cheers, braders.

use a normal float attach a small glow stick with a rubber band wrapped around it a few times cost is minimal. I find simple rigs around the rocks lose less gear I usually fish with no trace or swivel and the smallest sinker possible (pea size or smaller) the sinker rests on the hook, this rig outfishes any other including floats for bream and jew on the rockwalls i fish. Some nights though you just lose gear thats rock fishing.

Let me take you on a different slant with that question.


I have used the LED cap lights very successfully for a number of years. My first cost me $29 a few years ago but these days, you can get the same thing delivered to your letter box for less than $3 direct from China....

I have used a few of these quite satisfactorily over the years. At that price, you can afford to get a few extra for when you drop them in the drink or whatever.

I have bought quite a number of items over several years from that supplier, including computer and TV connectors, rare earth magnets, watch repair tools, various LEd things etc. No major problems.

Re: headtorch - it depends on what you want it to do. Do you want maximum metres of light or are you just using it in a boat etc? I have a good Petzl head torch which i think is a $70 model. I had a cheapie and this one seems to get more distance of light (or more lumens) which is what i was after for rock fishing.

For the price, you can't go past them. They are extremely bright. Not waterproof but I've been using the same one for about 1.5yrs now in all weather. When it breaks i'll just buy another one. Runs on 3 AAA batteries. Chews through them but you'll get multiple trips out of a set of batteries.

For the price you can buy 12 for $70. That's a lot of years of use.

When the hinge breaks (mine haven't yet after numerous uses) tape em up and give em to the kids.

For a glow float, just buy the water fillable bobber floats like these - http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewi...d=260952600487 and buy a 50 pack of glow bracelets like these - http://www.chinawholesalegift.com/pi...2046546831.jpg for $2 for your local dollar shop and cut em open and pour one in. One glow stick will glow all night an it will still float. Or just use a lumo bead on your line..

Thanks guys yeah, it'll be mainly used for onshore fishing. Just need to see what i'm doing when setting gear up etc as some places I frequent do not have lighting of any kind.
