Blue marlin off the cape

hi we fished today 20nm east of cape moreton and had three blue marlin bites on and only managed to tag one, also an additional wahoo for the trouble. my 15 year old son is very happy with his first blue marlin experience.
The conditions were very ordinary and lots of rain squalls and a very close encounter with a water spout, it was in our spread of lures at one stage and raced past the boat, only a small one but not enjoyable to say the least.
On our way back in 30 knots of very confused crap i passed a 15 foot Quintrex husband and wife heading out past combie towards the black stormy looking conditions, and i had the pleasure in advising them to turn around and stay in the bay. i couldn't believe they were planning going past the cape in those conditions??
anyway another great day on the water even if the forecast was 15-20 knots se/ne as i only had 10 knots twice in between 30 knot squalls.

The water spouts are a worry eh. I had a day down here about a month ago, where I have never seen so many! One storm had 3 of them out of the bottom of it

And that why there are a lot of search and rescues and people get into strife, I remember when I had my first Scarab 23ft, we went out from Horizon Shores at the top end of the Broadwater and there was a forecast of storms in the afternoon, anyway we went out the seaway in the morning and I kept an eye out the the massive clouds base on the horizon south west over the mountains down there, as the day went on we headed back inside the entrance as we could see the storm getting closer, the girls were having a quick swim at the time so told them to get back on board as I could see the storm getting bigger and getting faster towards us.

Once they were onboard we hightailed back to Horizon shores at about 40knots. We just managed to tie up with about 5 minutes to spare before it hit us, but just before we got into there, there was this little open tinnie I think about the 12ft size with a few people on board and it was heading out onto the broadwater, at that stage this massive cloud base was well and trully over us with flashing rumbling lightning and very dark clouds. As I said, it hit us 5 minutes after we tied up and it was a total whiteout, winds in the order of 40+knots, torrential rain and vis down to about 30ft tops. I even had cut it too fine for my liking.

If that couple had any brains they should have looked up and done a U turn or better still not gone out, but you can't teach "smarts". A lot of people have boats that shouldn't and those people unfortunately are called "statistics".

Forgot to mention.. great fish, they would have been a nice catch. Congrats.
