Berkley Fireline does it competetors proud...

Well I have always been a fan of the Fireline braid, but I have to say I will not be going down that road again soon, its a pity as I have caught some good fish on the stuff and it has done well by me until my last two spools.

Spool 1.) 20lb Fireline, knoted with wind knots multiple times and snapped quite easily when I pulled the knots out, trashed about 50 meters in half an hour, spool was useless after that..

Spool 2.) Good old 8lb in black, kept on breaking when pulling albrights tight, tried again and again and told myself I was just putting too much pressure on the knot.
Few nights ago lost a fish to a clean break in the braid, I kind of ignored it, then took it out today, I was throwing small baits in the surf on a 9 foot rod.
Good fish on then pop! , braid snapped again, more fool me for thinking it would be ok

Anyone else had any issues with this stuff recently?

That has been why I have always spooled a few reels with it as opposed to other gear.

Just saying,, last two spools died out of the packet.

Can you try taking it back or something?

I remember throwing a 20 dollar flatty lure pefectly and marvelling at my skills then watching it continue sailing away and the line fall flat on the water. Not a fun feeling.

How old was it? I always found that sun and salt wrecked it in about a year. Moved to monos for salt. I have some on a freshwater rod that i've got to replace soon and it's given me about 4 years (although i pull off around 20metres of it now and then when it starts looseing colour.)

My first intro to braid was with fireline about 7 years ago? I went out on a mates boat and I asked what was this horrible, fraying string stuff on the reels he was using? (it was terrible) he said 'braid!...fireline! excellent stuff!.....and I never paid much attention....
A little while later I bought some fireline for my own reels, and had some dubious results with it, and then it frayed and went terrible so I replaced it with other braid (no issues). I also used vanish and was quite happy with that until I pulled an old (18 months maybe) spool out and it broke easily (never subjected to sunlight) and then wondered about some bust offs I'd had with it....
I never bought fireline or vanish again.

I have used about 20 spools of Fireline over the years with two duds among them. they were 14lb Pink and 10lb pink. The others have been great to use. I have never had mine fray like others and it just gets better with age

Email the supplier, they are really helpful and replied to me straight away.
Replaced about 10 packets of gulp that went off due to a faulty seal. Go to the contact us page on pure fishing and the email I used was info at.

I have been using 6lb Fireline in Flame Green (Yellow) for about 10 years or more and have yet to experience any problems with it. It does become a bit fluffy and the colour fades as it ages but I find it still performs to my expectations. When it gets too fluffy I remove it from the spool and reverse it.

When Fireline Exceed first came on the scene I bought a spool in the 4kg to try and have since respooled 3 of my small spinning reels with it. It has now become my favourite line for light applications (I still use Whiplash Pro or Tuf Line XP in 20 -30lb) and I find the Hi Viz Orange easy to see. I got snagged in a tree last week and pulled my mates 4.1 m Polycraft boat across the river with it. I broke the leader (10lb Nitlon DFC) trying to retrieve my lure while the braid and double uni knot remained intact - its very thin, very strong and ties good knots.

I must have scored a dud.

Might give the Whiplash and Exceed a try.

The whiplash looks good, Dyneema, which is like spectra I think.

I now have Spectra in 30lb (JB), 50lb (JB), 20lb (Cortland), and 12lb (Izor) on my reels, one with 6lb Stren and one spool in need of something like 12lb.

I ditched the Toray Super PE as it knotted up when casting, was only light, but not robust enough.
I don't do much ''finesse'' fishing.

I also ditched the power pro, it was good but I did not like the way it floated sideways when casting..

I am still partial to mono for surf fishing as Braid just doesn't feel right in the surf (Though I still use it in the surf).

Hey Dan, like Jackson 53 said, try the Fireline Exeed, it's prety good stuff. Had heaps of people disappointed with Nanofil and returning it, switch them over to Exeed and they're happy as.

I've had some really good spools of fireline mainly in pink 4lb but when i have used 2lb it was awful same as the this 3rd spool of 3lb crystal.. This 3lb spool breaks it random spots in the braid after about 6 weeks of use! I got told it could be the guides on rods but after checking then i think i have dodgy batch..

I will moving on to something..

The Daiwa baids are great. Beautiful line but you're not paying for the advertising. Win Win situation.

Sunline Super PE in brain and FC Rock for fluro is all I now use, never had any problems. Not sure what weight they go up to though. (I use it for my bream outfits)
